The British High Commissioner Peter Millet has said that a solution to the Cyprus Problem was crucial for the security, prosperity and stability of Europe.
The British Amassador’s words came during a visit he paid to the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union yesterday.
Speaking before the meeting, British High Commissioner Peter Millet said he was pleased to have found the opportunity to exchange views with representatives of the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union on the Cyprus
Problem.
He said it was always interesting to exchange views with as wide range of people and different views as possible.
Pointing out that the Britain had a great interest in the settlement process of the Cyprus Problem, Millet said that his country fully supported the efforts of the two leaders to solve the Cyprus Problem and reunify the island.
The British High Commissioner also said that the security, stability and prosperity of the island was crucial to the security and prosperity of Europe and the UK.
Explaining that a settlement will have huge economic, political and social benefits for both peoples on the island, Millet expressed that the current talks was a crucial opportunity.
“Both peoples need to support their leaders in trying to bring this opportunity to a successful conclusion” he added.
For his part the President of the Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Union Guven Varoglu touched upon the United Kingdom’s historical relations with Cyprus.
Pointing out that a large number of TRNC citizens lived and studied in the UK, Varoglu said that a strong relationship existed between the two countries because of this.
