How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

How many countries like Cyprus actually joined the EU? Ever?

well the former yugoslavia is just about to join, soon...is that enough?...

aren't you forgeting ww2?...what the germans did?...no eu then but still...a lot of blood spilled everywhere...a lot more than Cyprus...but they got on...time to get on shamaran...

the eec was created 12 years after ww2 finished and 45 years later we still fucking around...

it has been 45 years, bullshit has to stop at some point in time...

Well first of all, your analogy is mostly false since there is no such thing as Yugoslavia anymore. What there is left is a bunch of divided states with only 1 of them making it to the EU so far (Slovenia). Another one recently gained recognition as an independent state (Kosovo). They are all still to join. If you really want to apply the Yugoslavia scenario to our own, you would be the Serbs, not us. So judging by the outcome, if that's the kind of a solution you see fit for us then that's totally fine by me ;)

Second, we have unjustifiably been given the "Gaza treatment" for over 40 years now!! What, you think we are just suddenly going to cave in and forget everything that has been done to us just because "its about time to get on" ? Fuck that!

For your information, just in case you don't know, we have been "getting on" without you one way or another ever since and I don't care how many self centered international suckers pose you as the sole owners of this island for their own benefit and have been trying to imprison us into our own lands ever since, because in reality you are far from it and if you don't stop reflecting this attitude to your negotiations we will just stay like this for ever and ever and ever. Its totally fine by me...

plenty of cookies in the dark side then...ok by me...stop asking for lifting of embargoes then...your choice...

but you didn't respond to the EEC formation 12 years afetr the bloodshed...

Well I wasn't aware of the fact that we were actually asking you for anything, I thought we just DO things. Lots of international companies gave the middle finger to your cry and pressures for the obedience to the embargoes. I am sitting in Gloria Jeans as we speak, you know the Ozzy coffee shop ;) This means in time the embargoes will just crumble, and we wont be able to sleep here for many days because of 800,000 people banging their heads on the walls for saying no to the Annan plan, what a noise that would make

I believe it is this very attitude that has been the reason for prolonging the conflict, this 'well if you don't give us everything we want then you can all rot in your homes' attitude. You seem to think you have more negotiation power then you actually do...

OK don't mean to split hairs here but it was just founded by a yank however internationalised by an Ozzy businessman, so the Ozzy is to blame for punching another fat hole through our embargo as he is the one who owns the international rights to the brand.

Anyways there is no 70 million banging on the EU door anymore, just the AKP fools and their suckups. Because the will for EU has gone way down over the years, now many ppl are opposing to the idea and I am one of them.

On the other hand I'm down for the 2 state solution but depends on the conditions too of course.

There was no way the GC's could get anything otherwise soo like you say, we shall wait and see :)

You'll be interested to know that Gloria Jeans over here is owned by the daughter of our former President.

I was talking about the one over on this side DT. Unless you mean that the daugher of your former president happens to be very rich as well as very hot and that I should be interested in her since I am probably the only one here who is young enough to get anywhere with her :P

Shit that is true!

This Gloria Jeans is absolutely shameless!

Enough raki for tonight then

But on a second thought, if they have such strong connections on the opposition, then how the hell did they pull it off?

I smell bribery...

shahmaran wrote:First of all save the repetitious and clique GC propaganda junk, no one is after to kill you anymore nor to take anything from you, if anything we want to give some back as we accepted to do so during the Annan fiasco. You are just as guilty in this ordeal and you are preventing indigenous people from their right to their country as well.

I live in Australia, and I can assure you that what I express is not propaganda. They are facts, according to numerous UN resolutions, and as far as the neutral Australian public are concerned. Our problem is one of invasion and occupation and I'm sorry you think this is clique GC propaganda, because the rest of the world does not agree with you.

Furthermore, we have compromised greatly by agreeing in principle to a BBF solution, and have received nothing in return. As a matter of fact, the Annan plan was even going to deny us our rights to an EEZ, and was a Confederacy and not a Federation.

We do not trust Turkey and will never allow Turkey any intervention rights. We are a member state of the EU and don't need Turkey. The indigenous Cypriots will never accept it, regardless of the fact that they can't, for the time being, return to their homes.

But I have to say, it is no secret that we don't trust you. I definitely do not trust you personally, and I would HATE to be left in a situation where I have to trust you. There is no way I would agree to a solution that would give you the military upper hand, NO WAY!

Well you let the cat out of the bag here Shah. You talk about never allowing us to have the "military advantage". This is indicative of your mentality. You wish to retain a "military advantage" and use it to shit on everyone else by denying the 82% their Human Rights as defined by the EU Charter.

We however, don't want any Military Advantage over Cyprus, but want our island and people united as EQUAL citizens. BIG DIFFERENCE!

So perhaps you are right. Our principles are incompatible with yours, and as long as this remains the case, we can never live together in a united Cyprus.

So I can turn the same idea around to you and say that Turkey is not the old Turkey and neither are we. They are here for our protection and our protection alone so its no threat to you if you are not planning anything stupid. Right? Turkey has said over and over again that the army will retreat once a proper solution is found. This means FIRST we find a solution and then they go. Not the other way around, that would be pretty stupid of us don't you think, I mean what do you take us for? As I have said you being an EU member means nothing, as the EU poses no sense of security for us nor should they.

We are an independent country and member of the EU. We can NEVER accept a guarantee from a country that invaded us, ethnically cleansed 200,000 and killed 10,000 indigenous Cypriots. I can never accept a guarantee from an Army that beat the crap out of my father in law in Adana.

As a member of the EU we have this, and you have NOTHING:

http://www.cyprus-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=24795

And yes I am talking about Solomos (the guy on the flag post yeah?), very sad incident and I definitely DO NOT agree with what happened, not the slightest, but nor can you claim that there was no provocation. It is so easy for governments to create more propaganda material for themselves by provoking and exploiting extremist people into doing crazy shit. It is very typical and has been used all over the world.

In most other western countries, people are not even arrested for burning the nation's flag. The mere fact that you consider this act by an unarmed demonstrator as "provocative", is very indicative of your mentality.

I am certain that an unarmed Solomos was not going to take away your "military advantage".....How on earth are we going to accept a guarantee from such murderers?......STUPID HYPOCRITE!

I am sorry but I just find your government to be very insidious and there is no way I can live under them with no security.

No one is more insidious than an Army that kills unarmed demonstrators! Image
