Troops from Turkey - for the love of God GO!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby miltiades » Sun Jul 05, 2009 10:37 am

Removing the embargoes , allowing direct flights into occupied Cyprus is tantamount to recognition of the pseudo state created and administered exclusively by the occupying power. No Cypriot would condone such an action , this coming from myself who is well known for his moderate views and his commitment to one united Cyprus where not a single Cypriot is classed as part of a minority .
Recognition will never occur and will never be considered as an option .

How will it be recognition? when the world would view the point of entry as the "RoC"? You cant have it both ways on the one hand you claim we are in the EU and in the same breath you support isolation of your so called compatriots just becuase Turkey is here due to problems we have yet to solve and you to contributed to.

The real reason why you demand our isolation is the fear that TCs will no longer want to unıte and leverage will be lost forever.

Miltiades what you forget is that TCs would rather live under a 1000 times more isolated country than capitulate to GC demands, if what the GCs offer is far more attractive than the TRNC you can be guaranteed that TCs will move closer to the GC south but this is not the case in fact the opposite and why we have grown further apart since the opening of the borders as TCs have seen the GCs in their own habitat and said whats all the fuss they are not living a better life style than us and we do not have to be exposed to their viewpoint of becoming second class citizens in our own country.

Milti. while I do agree with your statement above, some might see a more sinister motive for the contination of these 'embargoes' and non-recognition. The continuous embargoes will ensure that the TCs will be a much 'weaker' partner in any peace solution. I do not see what the GCs fear of a more developed Turkish Cypriot presence. There should be more faith and shown towards the Turkish Cypriots; the ending of these restrictions will show 'goodwill' from te Greek Cypriots. (I am not talking about recognition here - just isolation and embargoes).

Deniz, the problem with lifting the embargoes is that the trnc would/could claim this as recognition whether the ROC made non-recognition a condition or not. The ROC would also be loathe to do anything that would benefit the settlers or the TAF. Confidence building measures would certainly give a lift to the current talks. In the current climate if it was just TCs and GCs negotiating I'm sure that an agreement could be reached but Turkey, the settlers and carpetbaggers have complicated the the search for a solution. My own view is that Varosha should be returned to the ROC in exchange for say legally opening the port of Famagusta or possibly even Tymbou.

I agree Maraş should be offset against all ports deal, with the development work to be carried out by local firms not foreigners.

I assume you would not include TCs in the development work in Varosha because as you keep telling us you don't feel safe in our company. Besides, I don't think GCs would be too happy about paying those responsible for Varosha's destruction to rebuild it, unless they did it free of charge as an act of penance.

That I am aware of. How else do you think you can get more TCs to say 'Yes, re-unification is ok because we can trust the GCs.'

I have an affiliation with all, regardless of polarity. As a TC I understand his predicament, but disagree with his solution but agree with his concerns. Do you think that I do not understand the concerns of people? I can trust a future together under the watchful eye of the EU and the UN. Its you who has to sell the idea to the Tcs who demand Partition. Its only a thought, but the RoC will go forth blindly not giving a ---- to re-unification. Did I just say that?

Nice to know that you are keeping an eye on me.

As I said Varosha for ports, however if what Halil says about Talat wanting arbitration is true then we may not need confidence building measures.
