What good news for everybody in the Pafos area.

Airport bus route starts in Paphos
By Bejay Browne

A LONG-awaited bus route connecting Coral Bay and Paphos airport started in Paphos yesterday.

According to Alepa Ltd’s general manager Chrysostomos Chrysostomou, the daily bus route will enable passengers to arrive at the airport from between 90 minutes to two hours before the departure of their flight.

A spokeswoman for Alepa told the Cyprus Mail that the service had just started and the company was yet to receive any real feedback.

“People were calling every day requesting a service such as this. As I understand it, the busses will pick up from outside all the main hotels of Paphos.”

Route 12 will start from Coral Bay and travel along the coastal road through Kissonerga, past all the main hotels along the main road in Chlorakas, also home to many hotels, then along the seaside road in Kato Paphos, again past the hotels and holiday apartments, and passing through Yeroskipou before finally arriving at the airport.

The journey from Coral Bay is estimated to take around 55 minutes and all the bus stops along the route may be used as pick-up points.

Athena Costantinou, the marketing manager of the Aquamare Hotel situated along the new route said praised Alepa’s initiative.

“It’s good that guests don’t have to go to the central bus station to be picked up and can use the existing bus stops. We are happy that the service is being offered, and it’s something extras for the guests. I think it’s good to have an alternative way of transport and we will see how it’s received. We hope it will be successful,” she said.

Coral Bay resident and pensioner Iris Monahon also welcomed the service.

“At long last we are to get a bus service. It will be of great use to everyone, and I hope the Cypriots will also use it. We are too lazy in this country and want to drive right to the front door of our destination.”

Monahon has lived in Cyprus for fifteen years and has often complained about poor public transport in Cyprus.

“I think it will help a lot of people who can’t afford a taxi – and for me going to meet relatives will be more convenient and economical. It would be good if we had a better public transport in Cyprus generally.”

n The new bus service runs daily at a cost of €3 for adults, €2 for children and infants under two travel free. Luggage is included in the ticket price. For more information call 99-370444, 26-934252 or visit www.pafosbuses.com

Tough bloody luck.

Lets face it they are a bloody rip off WHY? because it can be cheaper to fly to Manchester from Paphos than take a taxi from the Airport to Coral Bay.....they deserve what they get and they have had Monopoly for many years now...

I think airport taxi drivers are the same around the world! They used to have the monopoly on travelers and could demand the higher prices.

Thank goodness for the 'competition'! It is long overdue!

Why would I pay €3 for a bus ride when I can get a taxi for only €80!

Have any of you people out there personaly owned and ran a taxi bussiness in Cyprus? Do you know anything about all the hidden costs and the winter season when they have no work at all? Any idea about the licence fees and social security and so on? The same goes for the bars and restaurants as well. The price is what it is. If you can't afford it don't use it. It's simple as that. Complaining about the price is only a sign of jealousy towards the people who can efford it. Stick with your own class and get the bus!
