Today I received a cheque from our Jerry , via Western Union I received a contribution from Umit .
Paphitis , Halil have also responded admirably and should be receiving their contributions soon.
DT has forwarded to my account in Cyprus , and Yialousa to my account in London , I will acknowledge receipt in due course.
An account has been opened on my computer and the collected funds will be handed over to the Home in due course. An official receipt will be posted on the forum.
I expect the total sum , round two to be in excess of a combined total of about 800 euros taking the grand total to 1300 euros.
I have spoken to Mr Kostas Demosthenous , the Home administrator who has asked me to express his gratitute for the help given.
I have not met Kostas yet but indend to do so on my next trip penciled in for July 17th.
Thanks to all those who contributed and ask those who havent to consider a small donation.
ps. Some think that one should not make public charitable contributions.
The Royal Marsden Hospital for Cancer patients in the UK has raised a substantial sum of money for badly needed medical equipment , it is by far the most proficient and superbly run hospital in the UK , both branches the Fulham and Sutton have served my wife admirably for the last almost 8 years .
It is by making public their need of funds that the general public has responded. On a much smaller scale Ayios Stephanos will benefit by almost 1500 euros , so what if one individuals efforts are misinterpreted by some as publicity seeking . So what !!
I confirm that I have today received the contribution pledged by Yialousa
it has been added to the Ayios Stephanos a/c and just as soon the rest of pledged donations arrive I will pass the combined total to the Home.
My sincere thanks to Yialousa who has shown exemplary wisdom in recognising that charitable deeds have no political barriers and that our differences in the political debates can be put aside for the good of those deserving our help.
When Turkey was struck by an earthquake some years back Greece dispatched assistance and Turkey responded when an earthquake struck Greece some time later.
