Human Rights

Postby DT. » Fri Jun 26, 2009 8:41 pm

With all this talk of human rights I thought it deserved its own thread. I'll kick it off with an interesting map from privacyinternational.org which has identified which countries provide privacy protection and which countries are guilty of extensive surveillance on their own citizens in breach of their human rights. The findings are a little surprising...turns out the worst offenders are China, Russia, Malaysia, GREAT BRITAIN and the USA.

This is a report prepared by Maplecroft. It presents the first ever set of global risk indices in order to help businesses calculate the risks of setting up in a specific country. There are a number of comprehensive global maps determining each country's risk factor for a number of specific issues regarding human rights.

Probably the only reason why Turkey is not one of the worst offenders with technology surveillance, is that such a huge proportion of their population cannot even afford toilet paper; and for those who have some technology, they find most sources of free-expression are banned by the State!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Tables/4_col_ ... 30,00.html

Please note that neither Greece or Cyprus are ranked within the world's 100 HR abusers. Turkey however is present in all her glory.

Anyone who taints Greece and Turkey with the same brush, whilst defending Iranian HR abuses within the same breath is just downright STUPID!

Anyone who taints Greece and Turkey with the same brush, whilst defending Iranian HR abuses within the same breath is just downright STUPID!

Stupid is when one gets their information about “HR abuses” from a newspaper which places the Republic of Yugoslavia is the top spot despite the fact that it ceased to exist in 1992!

Stupid is when one makes the sweeping statement that Greece is “not ranked within the world's 100 HR abusers” in this silly table, because they haven’t bothered to click on the link below it to see the second page of that list where they’ll find Greece in the 57th spot…

Greece 10.6 0.867 122,946 6.94

And finally, stupid is when one thinks they’ve struck gold with this junk link (for HR abuses) and have the audacity to call others “stupid” with a giant font!

Paphitis, if anything today you’ve learned that “stupid” is what you see in the mirror every day.
