Two sides agreed on a joint draft text

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Two sides agreed on a joint draft text

TRNC PRESIDENT MEHMET ALI TALAT MEET WITH LEFKE LOCALS LAST NIGHT

Talat told reporters in Lefke that - for the first time during the ongoing negotiations process - the two sides agreed on a joint draft text that brings the two sides’ proposals closer.

Speaking at a local gathering in the town, Talat referred to the call on the two sides in Cyprus by the EU President Jose Manuel Barosso to work on a faster pace to avoid losing more time; and reminded that this has, all along – been what the Turkish Cypriot side has been calling for, and doing all it could to make come true, in a bid to move forward for a solution to the Cyprus problem.

He recalled that 4 chapters out of 6 have now been taken up at the ongoing process aimed at finding a negotiated solution to the Cyprus problem, and said that following the preliminary discussions on the remaining two chapters the process is now going into second revision of these issues.

As for the nature of the ongoing negotiations process, Talat said the talks are being conducted in a manner in which a joint text is being prepared that takes into account the known policies and views of the two sides.

“This is unprecedented” in itself, he said.

The President of the Republic also referred to foreign intervention in the negotiations process and said that the agreements signed recently between the Greek Cypriot Administration and the United Kingdom and Russia have had an adverse effect on the process.

Furthermore, he said the ruling announced by the European Court of Justice on what has become known as the Orams Case, has had an effect like “a bomb being thrown at the negotiating table”.

Preparations for Turkey's meeting with EU going well. At the end, after Dec09, the plan will be rejected because the paper quality on which it will be stated will not satisfy either T/cs or G/cs

Can't possibly have as much an effect as the bomb thrown by the TMT against the Turkish press office in Nicosia on the 7th June 1958...

Talat: Giving Land Is Inevitable In Case Of A Settlement

TC leader Mehmet Ali Talat said that it is inevitable for the Turkish Cypriot Side to give land in case of a settlement in Cyprus.

He also added that this has been approved by the "Parliament" since the former leader Rauf Denktas’ term in office. Mr Talat said there is not a certain map on how much land or which places to be transferred.

Calling on the Turkish press not to publish such news before finding out the realities on the issue, Talat stated that the map which will include the arrangements of land can only be put on the agenda on the latest phase of the negotiations in case of agreements on other issues.

Even if only Kyrenia was ruled by the Turks it would be too much.

No part will be ruled by Turks or Greeks; only Cypriots will rule!
