I wish I could agree with you there. If only we lived in a world where Cyprus could exercise complete sovereignty! However, the truth is that various powers pull a lot of strings behind the scenes, one of these being the former colonial master and guarantor power, Britain. It seems that for these outsiders the distinction between a Turkish Cypriot and a mainland Turk is an obscure semantic debate, and they are quite happy for the political will of the Turkish Cypriots to be represented in referendums by the de facto TRNC electoral role. It seems dangerous to me.
Tim, you also need to remember that Tony Blair is no longer the Prime Minister of Britain, who was a BIG backer of the Annan Plan along with George Bush, despite all it's Democratic, Human Rights and International Laws violations, just to please Turkey. Well, times have changed and so far, I have not heard of any foreign heads of states presently supporting the AP of 2004, except for Turkey of course and all the puppets in the north. Therefore, whatever UK may have agreed to in 2005 as far as who can vote in any peace referendum, will be non and void in the future I believe. UK has yet to live up to any part of her 1960 guarantor power responsibilities, therefore, I doubt the RoC will accept such rulings. I can't see how the UK can impose such a ruling on Cypriots, and if the TCs believe that Turkey will sell them out, as Talat seems to think so, then the TCs will also not want the UK ruling to be used in the future, since the settlers will out vote them any day of the week. My, my, my, how times have changed since 2004.!
