To the best of my knowledge, there is a statutory requirement in Cyprus for all retail outlets to clearly display prices. I have yet to see a cafeteria or restaurant (with the exception of traditional village coffee shops - perhaps these are exempt) that does not have a menu including prices displayed prominently near the entrance. In tourist areas these tend to take the form of huge boards in several languages. Similarly, when the waiter brings a menu to the table, the price of each item is clearly shown. Under these circumstances, is it too much to demand that customers conform to the traditional rule of 'caveat emptor'.
