that too is a valid point.................but why Turkey would want to join this ramshakled mob beats me.

Let me tell you something...... when Mustafa Kemal suggested Europeanisation as a way forward for Turkey, this level of European idiot hadnt yet been discovered.

Only to be used as a weapon to frighten both USA and EU. It's Russia that would gain from this by having free access into the med, which would put the fear of god into US and EU.
Some people on this forum have all but forgotten the important role Turkey has been playing by protecting the southern flank of Europe. Of course then they are Europeans but when it comes joining the EU then they become scum.

Go ahead, give the USA and the EU a reason to ruin Turkey every possible way by encouraging her to dump the west and be a "satellite state" of Russia. Do you have anymore stupid ideas, or was this your best one yet.?

Russia already has a free access to the Mediterranean. When was the last time Turkey blocked any Russian ships or subs from passing under the Istanbul’s Suspension Bridge in either direction.?

Why do you think the Americans help build that bridge anyway. Any hostile move by Turkey and Russia duet against the west, and the bridge comes down, blocking all shipping coming or going through that strait.!

True Democracy has nothing to do with it.

Sure Turkey can have friendship with any nation it wants, and it is encouraged, but you were suggesting in dumping the west and going into "bed" with the Russians. Bad move. Iraq and Yugoslavia did the same not too long ago. Some food for thought for you to think about, YFred.!

Kiks, you are the one who suggested that the time is up for Turkey. I am merely saying that she is as important as she has ever been in my own inimitable way. If EU say no and I don't believe for one moment that they will, then there are others who say yes with pleasure.

I'm the one who has been supporting Turkey to become a EU member, but like all things in life, there is price to pay. Forget the Cyprus problems for Turkey for a moment. Turkey needs to change internally no matter what, if she is ever to be considered as a European country as Atatürk envisioned, whether she becomes a EU member or not. Naturally, she will have a much better chance of becoming a EU member if Turkey in fact does reform to be seen as a European country. But all this will mean nothing if in fact Turkey does not help solve the Cyprus problem to become a EU member, because the RoC will simply block her and has warned her many times, which the EU has not told the RoC to shut up with such remarks. And if the EU says NO to Turkey, just what is it the Russians will be offering her.? EU or no EU, Turkey is far better off in the West than in the East, or even Russia.
