Byron, I suppose you do not mind the idea of forever losing half of your country, as long as you are able to freely wave "Hellenic" flags in the remaining half of it. However, this is clearly not a preference the vast majority of Greek Cypriots have, and they (we) instead prefer to compromise on such a nonsensical and idiotic idea for the sake of being able to freely enjoy the whole of their (our) historical homeland. Your idea and preference is a dead end one, for it inevitably leads to the permanent lose of 50% of our country.
Let me also remind you that when Onisilos was liberating Cyprus from the Persians, he did not have that (Greek) flag as his symbol. When Pericles was establishing democracy in Athens and setting the founding stones of what makes us Greeks proud of our heritage, i.e. the universally admired ancient Greek civilization and the cradle of the modern Western one; he did not use, nor had this flag in his mind as a symbol. Neither Miltiades did, when he was defeating the Persians in Marathon, nor Leonidas in Thermopylae. The Greek flag is only a fairly recent invention, and represents the modern mainland Greek state. It does not represent the overall Greek world, nor the diachronic Greek Civilization and the ancient Hellenic spirit, for the simple reason that it did not exist at the time. Furthermore, the Modern Greek flag incorporates Christian religious symbolism, which in fact -when first appeared on Greek soil, vandalized or eradicated all the elements and landmarks of the ancient Hellenic spirit and civilization, one of the prime examples of which is the destruction of Parthenon and Acropolis. It is only thanks to the Arabs, that kept and preserved it, that we Greeks came to know about it today.
I suggest you go and educate yourself a bit, silly boy, for I and the majority of Greek Cypriots surely prefer to be able to take our Children to a proud and a free trip to Salamina, Soloi, St. Barnabas, Kyrenia, St. Hilarion, Kantara and all the other landmarks of our historical past, than to be denied of them for the sake of being able to wave a flag that represents another nation-state, no matter how brotherly we feel about it.
You just need to always remember that the choice is not between this (Greek) and / or another flag; but rather (whether we like it or not) one between this flag and / or your country as a whole -instead of only the 50% of it.
I do not have time to read your silly propaganda. To say that the vast majority of Greek Cypriots are not hellenes is totally false. Only a handful of neo - Cypriots as defined by Epislon are trying by propagandistic means to change the Greek Cypriot Ethnos. Furthermore the question of the flag has nothing to do with reuniting Cyprus. So please refrain from going back to Adam and Eve as nobody has the time to read such nonsense. Instead you should question and complain as to why the Turkish Cypriots have their own flag totally seperate from that of the ROC.
Why shouldn't the Hellenic flag, designed by a person with Cypriot roots
( see other threads) not represent the Greek Cypriots. If it is good enough to represent the Orthodox church in Cyprus then it is good enough to represent its citizens.
If Cyprus is to be united under GREEK CYPRIOT majority rule ( Oracle) then the main language should be GREEK so should its religion, politic and flag with tolerance to minorities and their beliefs. This is called democracy. The flag question is not the CYPRUS PROBLEM !!!

Agree with you, Paphitis. The only problem is, for the last 4 decades, the TCs have been made to hate the Cyprus flag for propaganda purpose to label is as a "GC flag" in search for official partition, therefore, it is going to be very hard for some to come to terms with the official RoC flag which is recognised by the world all over. No Byron, people of your ilk do not represent the majority of GCs. At best you only form about 5% of the total GC population, who do hold anachronistic ideals that will lead the island to permanent partition. But I will go further and proclaim that you are not even part of the 5% nationalist GC element that is still holding ideals of Enosis, but rather you are part of something even more sinister and are part of the 5% nationalist TC element that is hell bent on partitioning the island forever.
Don't think you have fooled anyone here, because you are a TC Turkish nationalist and this is your flag:
And you are using this flag:
To shit on this flag by achieving your objective:
And your objective is nothing more than to divide Cyprus by propagating to the TCs that the GCs are still willing to insist on Greek Symbols they do not identify with and that the majority of Cypriots still want ENOSIS or a Hellenic Orthodox Cyprus Republic.
Even when you first started posting, you told us that you bravely fought against the invading Turkish Army by defending Nicosia Airport, and yet you were unable to remember which unit you served. At every opportunity you cleverly undermine the RoC in such a way that will not cast any suspicion as to your real identity.

Hello my enlightened Cypriot Brother (Kikapu),
It is such a shame that many TCs have been brainwashed against the RoC flag, because it is probably one of the most neutral flags in the world. It is a secular flag when compared to the flags of both Greece and Turkey, and as you know was invented by a TC.
I speak for my self, as always, but I'm quite partial to the current flag because to me it represents a modern, peaceful, secular and progressive Cyprus based on True Democracy and Human Rights. If the TCs disagree, then I would not mind for another unifying flag to be adopted, as long as that flag does not include any symbols related to either the Greek Orthodox or Islamic Faiths, and is comprised of neutral colors which do not have any links whatsoever to either Greece or Turkey.
The proposed Annan Flag was the most hideous thing imo because it included a Red stripe and a Blue stripe, thus reinforcing links to both Turkey and Greece. To me, this is tantamount to inviting both of those countries to interfere within our country forever, and this does not resemble true independence or demoracy.
I am all for both GCs and TCs maintaining their ethnic and linguistic character, but I don't think that any flags that resemble anything Hellenic or Turkish is such a wise move.
So for me, the current Cyprus Flag fits the bill.

Please get your facts right. There is a very simple reason why most TCs have a dislike for the RoC Flag. It goes back to the 60s when the RoC Police used to stop TC busses outside Lefkosa in mid-summer in the heat of the midday sun made to sit in the boiling busses whilst they sat in their shades with their cool water. The TCs would look around and all they saw was the Greek and the RoC flag. There is only one way to deal with this and that is to have a new flag, in the western world its called re-branding. Windscale, Sony, Datsun etc etc have all been renamed and re-branded because their name was associated with crap.

VP will be waiting to hear from his foot soldiers.....You are a complete fool far away from reality in Australia. Your only link to Cyprus is Wilkepedia. It is you who represents the sinister way of trying to solve the Cyprus problem and maintaining the continual existence of partition.
I was going to say that it is YOU that is far from reality, but this would be untrue since you are a Turkish Grey Wolf, propagating misinformation designed to give GCs a bad name in an effort to vindicate TC partitionist desires.
You are nothing but a Turkish sleeper on CF, whose sole aim is the permanent partition of Cyprus. You form as Epislon states the neo-cypriot regime which is against the Greek Cypriot Ethnos. My aim is to resolve the existing Cyprus situation like every person including yourself. However, there are many ways to "skin a cat". We perhaps differ in our approach but many like yourself cannot stand the fact, that ideas exist which are different to yours. So you go on the attack by classifying them as a TURK or a traitor. You should be ashamed of yourself.
I fully support the Greek Cypriot Ethnos. What I don't do, is support a state of affairs which can only lead to the permanent loss of 50% of Cyprus.
There is absolutely no doubting Epsilon's Greek Cypriotness. However, you are obviously a Turk who is pushing the Greek Flag and Enosis ideals in order to justify Turkey's position in Cyprus, and which can only lead to 2 states - one Greek and another Turkish.
You have never ever posted one thing which strengthens the RoC or its political stance, and yet you are so eager to ram things down our throat which only justify Turkey's 2 state ideals.Regarding the flag, the Greek Cypriot people did not choose the ROC flag as its own. Even before the establishment of the Cyprus Republic, Greek Cypriots were waving the Hellenic flag and singing the Hellenic anthem. Why all of a sudden should we forget all of this ? Have we become anti-hellenes overnight or were we stupid to fight for self -determination. Why do we continue to sing the Hellenic Anthem. In fact we sing it proudly, furthermore no referendum has been currently proposed to change it.
I am not an anti Hellene, and I will always still be partial to my Hellenic Ethnos, as will most GCs. But most of us are loyal to the RoC Flag, and try to support the RoC in ridding itself of the Turkish occupation. You however do not do this. If you are a GC, then you would be loyal to the RoC, and its flag, and that does not mean that we must turn our backs on the Hellenic Ethnos. What it does mean, is accepting the fact that Cyprus will always be a free and independent nation, and that the ideal of ENOSIS is dead and buried. It is already hard enough for Cyprus without people like you coming here posting stupid remarks which can only mean that Cyprus will be permanently divided.
But then again, you are an ever so diligent Turkish Grey Wolf, so you are just serving your country well. Why are you not also questioning the fact that your fellow Turkish Cypriot brothers have their own flag disticnt from the ROC. Why is it that the Orthodox Church flies the Hellenic flag, why is it that 99% of Greek Cypriots are GREEK ORTHODOX !
The Greek Orthodox Church is another institution that WILL be separated from the state. Religion and politics MUST always be separate and this organization and its symbols, do not represent me and many others. I want a Cyprus free from a the shackles of backward clerics who offer the state absolutely nothing at all and who are too eager to dictate and have a say on very important issues such as stem cell research and abortion. Just because 99% of GCs are baptised in the GO church does not mean they are GO. I would even go as far as saying that over 50% of those GCs are Atheist or at least Agnostic fence sitters.
As a Hellenist, but more importantly, as a Cypriot, I loathe the Church that has caused my people so much regression. Greeks and Cypriots are only a mere shadow of their predecessors, and the sharp decline incidentally coincided with the rise of Byzantium and the GO Church. When I first wrote regarding the Cyprus invasion you stated that mainland Greeks did not assists the Greek Cypriots now you posted a whole topic giving names of the people that gave their lives to the cause. Very strange indeed ? I am coming to the conclusion that apart from Yiallousa, James MV, Oracle and a few other pro hellenes the rest including yourself, GR, Miltiades, DT, kurepotos are all TURKISH whose main ojectives is the demise of cypriot hellenism. That is the Cyprus problem, neo -cypriots are trying to create a new culture which the TURKS do not buy and that is why the Cyprus problem will not be solved. From what I hear in Bruxelles, the EU is beginning to get annoyed and if what I hear is correct the news will not be good.
I have never stated that Greeks never assisted Cyprus. They did and they still do. Many Greeks died in Cyprus trying to fight the Turks and this needs to be respected.
However, as a rationalist, I also understand that Greece did things which have led us to our current partition. And that is not to say the Greece is solely to blame for this, because Cypriots themselves must carry a good proportion of the blame. Aside from this, there were also many external factors which led to our demise. Factors that were ALMOST beyond our control. Cyprus was more a Cold War victim of the US and Soviet Union.
I can't speak for James or Yiallousa, but I know Oracle well enough to say that there is no way she holds any ideals which disrespect RoC independence or the sanctity of the RoC flag. I know her well enough to say that she would never do anything to harm Cyprus. Now you go and speak to your brother the WOLF and get further instructions.
