Just arrived back from UK which I enjoyed Looked forward lots to coming back to Cyprus and was not disappointed, until I was met with a barrage of argueing taxi drivers standing in my way at Larnaca arrivals Anyway moving on, I had need to take someone around my area of Cyprus for a drive yesterday(Protaras, Ayia Napa, Konnos, and Cavo Greco) and can see very plainly that although tourists are much less in numbers at the moment in fact some hotels have,nt opened at all, bars, restaurants, shops, takeaways etc etc are being razed to the ground, rebuilt or gutted and re-furbed, new smart ones springing up looking really good
I don,t go to tourist areas much so its sometime since i,ve been, it was an eye opener seriously, well done to those in the industry taking chance of the current blip to upgrade, and hopefully others will follow the lead.
Those that have opened, we checked prices and although its not what I,D pay being a foreign resident reasonable tourist prices prevailed.
We have new roads and pavements and lighting being done as we speak thru Paralimni, new large shops, some thank god, won,t be shoe shops It made me feel good yesterday seeing all of this and what is being re-done or constructed even new kiosks, the lifeblood of Cyprus is a contempary style maybe NOT Cypriot but acceptable Tourists upgrades IMHO.
So for those that think Tourism is dying or going somewhere else, I,d think that its just a matter of time before its back to large numbers with of course a new contempary (resorts only please) Cyprus.
Hopefully that will keep the lager louts away
Sometimes we just need to open our eyes a bit more
