If you think about it this is how it is for most things we believe. It is very few things that we discover by ourselves. Most things we learn from family, school and society.

Yes Sotos ... but we are given an abundance of freedom to express ourselves without fear of being shot or imprisoned if we do not "choose" a particular item!

Most things we pick up from peers ... but if we get it wrong .... we can still live! We might be laughed at for wearing bell-bottom jeans instead of drainpipes ... but it's not a matter of life or death!

Yes in Europe it is not a matter of life or death because we don't have the death penalty. But you can be put in jail and have consequences from society if your don't follow the rules. Try walking naked in the supermarket tomorrow and count how much time it will take until you get arrested ;) The difference is really on how much of your body a society allows you to show in public. Some allow more some allow less. Freedom is not an option anywhere. There are society rules everywhere.

Of course there are rules we all have to follow. But Sotos, those rules are usually there to protect the weak in society!

Banning the Burka is like banning an EXTREME. Just as we do not tolerate full nudity in public, so too for this torturous garment.

But if the amount of clothes you wear is related to freedom doesn't this mean that being nude is even better? 100 years ago in Cyprus and most other places you had to wear a lot more than what you have to wear today. What if another society becomes even more "advanced" and "progressive" than ours and encourages people to walk around nude? Do you think they will be right to accuse us of being conservative and unfree society? How about sex in public also? It is the most natural thing after all! I think our society also has many rules that are not related with protecting the weak and we should judge our own society before we judge others! Do we really want a free society or we just want to impose the rules of our society on every other society?

Sotos the Burka is not an item of clothing. It is an item of slavery!

Given freedom, people choose to wear as much, or as little as is appropriate for the weather. No Human cultures consistently follow total nudity, not even isolated Amazonian natives. Also, none practice sex in public places. All these things traditionally safeguard the young and weak. At the opposite end of the scale, no one chooses to wear this amount of clothing, except the Inuit in the Arctic.

But in the end, it's not about degrees of freedom being bent; but, more about not tolerating abusers of Human Rights. Imposing a fear of consequences (death) through not wearing a Burka, is terrorism! And it is aimed specifically at women and girls ... the weakest!

Why should France/anyone tolerate symbols of terrorism within their society?
