Oh dear, our Freddie has gone all religious on us, must have seen the Light on the Road to a Free Kyrenia.

Reh pushtoFreddie, the leaders on their own don't count, it's Principles that matter as well. You know things like human rights, equal suffrage, respect for the property of others etc.

You get yourselves a leader who respects these things like wot our Pres X does and hell, even I would vote for him/her.

Bu ise re Pushdo Charlui, you couldn't see your saviour if it punched you on the nose.
And no I have not gone religious but I hope that our Religious GCs will appreciate the comment.

Your trouble is you want it all and you want it yesterday. All or nothing mentality aint going nowhere. This is Turko style yavas yavas, get my meaning.

Lambron na se gapsee reh.

I don't want anything reh. I don't want you to give me anything mate. What I have in the way of rights, I and everyone else has these things 'as of right' in much the same way as you have the undeniable right to breathe the air.

Pres X ant the EU respect these rights, why won't you reh?

Lamron na me gapsi? san do yeron budon Kofinu?

I respect those rights as much as you do, but I am realistic enough to know that everyone back to their homes will not work. I hope most of the people get their property back, but there is no doubt that some people will have to accept compensation. The question is what percentage and how much?

The RoC does not respect those same rights, but of course you will not accept that. The way they are treating the TCs claims in the south is a disgrace to humanity, but that’s another story.

I hoped Mr X would make a difference in these negotiations but I get this feeling he is waiting for Talat to go and then he can blame Eroglu for the failure.

Reh, are you trying to sell us the abnoxious idea that there's such a thing as half a right, 50% of a right? It's equal 100% of rights for all, all of the time. It's what we mean by European Principles without derogations.

Pres X knows this and he is going to drag you kicking and screaming in to the 21st Century without your usual special priveleges.

Live with it. It's all that's on offer. The Illegal Rave Party is over.

Yes, it's clear to Christofias and to tourkomogolistan that this round of the game is drawing to a close. Progress on mogoloistani reforms towards EU integration will be reviewed at the end of this year, and the first cab off the rank is their non-implementation of the Ankara protocol (i.e. opening up their ports to Cypriot aircraft and shipping). They have played moves well, or at least to maximum effect, stalling for as long as possible, gaining little concessions while giving up nothing. To their frustration however, Christofias is using the same tactics - you will notice that his mantra is "no artificial timetables, no external mediation", while talat has in mind both his political mortality and the review on Turkey's progress that will occur at the end of this year.

Pending a miracle, the mogolistanis will be in the horns of a dilemma: relinquish their grip on Cyprus and be forced into accepting (for them) a humiliating compromise, or forget about being further integrated into Europe. Can you imagine the torrent of legal actions that will be unleashed if the current round of talks ends without progress? (say if Talat is voted out of office next year?). Forget private citizens and foreigners like the Orams', the monglistani government and army own billions of dollars of assets within reach of European courts.

I am talking about giving most people 100% and some compensation? That is what is being discussed right now. The question is how many will get everything and how many will get compensation. I really believe that there will be enough from both sides not wanting to relocate to make it work without the need for derogation.

Yes but it is up to property owners whether to return or not. Whether to sell up or not. All have a right to choose what to do with their property. No one should be forced to accept cash compensation or alternative land.

Reh James, can you tell us more about your last sentence. In what ways does the RoT gov and army have assets within reach ?

What I was trying to say that there are assets belonging to the mogolistani army that are within reach of courts of European Union member states, and those assets might be available to settle judgements in favour of plaintiffs bringing actions against the mogolistani army, for example.

For example, there is a mogolistani army pension fund that owns assets in Europe. The mogolo government similarly would hold billions in savings and investments all over Europe. Do you really think they're stupid enough to hold their retirement savings in worthless lira and mogolistani assets?

Surprisingly enough, this tourkomogolo agrees with me! (partly)

Viewing Turkey's Cyprus policy in an article in Referans (19.06.09), Mensur Akgun maintains that with the exception of the impasses regarding eight chapters in Turkish-EU negotiations one cannot say that Turkey has so far paid a high price for its non-action on the Cyprus issue. If the Cyrus problem is not resolved or if it is not resolved in favor of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots this price can be heavier, writes Akgun, adding that the developments concerning the Orams case and the suits filed with the European Court of Human rights, ECHR, indicate that the financial price Turkey might have to pay will be very heavy. Alleging that the EU supports the Greek Cypriots, Akgun says that the information leaking from the current negotiations being held behind closed doors indicate that the Greek Cypriots do not intend to reach conciliation and that they are trying to impose their solution on the Turkish side. The writer continues: 'The political and diplomatic consequences of the rejection by the Turkish Cypriots of a plan for a solution to be signed without it being well negotiated might be more difficult to bear than the continuation of the status quo'. Urging the Turkish government to apply its diplomatic weight on the Cyprus issue in a bid to alter the balances, Akman stresses the need for diplomatic initiatives that will prevent the Greek Cypriots from feeling strong, adding that placing the Annan Plan once again on the agenda might rescue the Turkish Cypriots from their current isolation. The writer concludes by urging Prime Minister Erdogan to allocate more time to the Cyprus issue and to launch new initiatives.
