The use of the nouns “Turkish Cypriot” and “Turkish Cypriots” has been banned on all programs broadcast by "state run" Bayrak Television network in northern Cyprus.

In the place of “Turkish Cypriot” the term “Turk of Cyprus”, will be used.

According to the Yeni Duzen newspaper, the director of Bayrak, Ozer Kanli, confirmed the bizarre decision.

“The expression Turkish Cypriots describe the persons who were born in Cyprus. But it does not include our compatriots who came to our island after 1974.

“The expression ‘Turk of Cyprus’ includes both the Turkish Cypriots and the Turks who came later to Cyprus and has a broader meaning.

"The term 'Turkish Cypriots' was used by foreigners. This expression started to be used during the latest period and such an expression never existed in Bayrak’s history,” he said.

According to Yenı Duzen, before 2004 the use of terms such as “Cypriots” and “Turkish Cypriots”, which were used by the “Platform this Country is Ours”, were forbidden by the “government” of the National Unity Party

...and were the Tcs asked if they want to be called Turks of Cyprus?
Tcs are forced to be deprived of their identity, how are they going to react?

Show us that YOU care and tell us what YOU have done since 1963 to help us preserve our identity...Then and only then have you got the face to criticise others...

We do not need, we do not want to critise others- we just want to lieve Cyprus in the hands of its owners-G/cs

Here is the first reaction, Two fingers.

YFred
I would have thought, at least you (coming from a Lino Bambaki village) would not support the idea of being branded the same as Turks,Kurds,Arabs & Laz Turkey has imported to Cyprus since 1974.

We all know the political views of Ozer Kanli and just because he licked enough arses within UBP to become Bayrak's new director does not mean we will give up our identity!!

This highly contemptuous act is nothing short but nail on the coffin of the so far called "trnc" Sizable numbers of T/Cs opposed the continued occupation of the north part of Cyprus , this number will increase tenfold as time goes when even the most ardent supporters of the continued occupation will come to realize that their very existence is threatened to come to an end.
Some mentioned that way back in the 50s the Turkish Cypriot were called just Turks , I do not dispute this any more than a Turkish Cypriot can dispute the fact that the G/Cs were referred to as Greeks. The term however of TOURKOKIPIOS AND ELLINOKIPRIOS was the dominant description that existed.
I wonder what the next bizarre act will be forced upon the native Turkish Cypriots by this third world steeped in the 19th century nation. The message that she ought to receive from the Turkish Cypriots must be a demand that she clears off . Are the G/Cs ready to embrace their compatriots and ditch anachronistic behaviour in areas where cultivation of "separatism" is still occurring ?

I'm pretty sure that even a deadbeat moron such as yourself will acknowledge - at least when sober - that the answer to this question is a resounding NO.

What you would like the answer to be is of course an entirely separate matter.
