Christofias is actually very well received in countries such as Australia, by all mainstream political parties. I remember when Tassos was President, no one actually wanted anything to do with Cyprus, but Christofias is now building vital bridges with EU partners and even the US, Australia, Canada et al.
The talk in Australia is about his initiatives in finding a solution to the Cyprus problem. No one is talking about Turkey any more, and the way things are panning out, it looks as though it will be Turkey that is condemned if the peace process fails.
Some of this may be due to Alexander Downer being the new UN envoy, and I am certain he secretly briefs the Australian Government about any developments on the negotiation table. What is certain is that Alexander Downer did not make any claims that there will be a 2 state solution, or that this process will be the final chance for a settlement as portrayed in the "trnc" and Turkish medias.
Christofias has placed Cyprus in a win win situation. He is reclaiming the respect of many nations across the world.
He may be well known down under but in Mainland Europe, the vast majority of the people do not even know his name so how is it that he is doing so well ?
