Turk-TCs Stealing our Oil now! ....

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby bill cobbett » Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:35 pm

Oh and another thing... The next time a survey ship from US, EU etc goes about it's legal business I'd like to see close quarter protection from whatever gunboats CY has and from those choppers.

Send the right message to the thieving Turks and see if they want to create an incident.

:? We’ve already got small patrol gun boats but they’re not good enough against the Turkish navy on their own. If it comes to a confrontation our best bet is to use our squadron of Mi-35Ps loaded with Exocet AM39s.

I meant to say that Cyprus could do with a few Fast Attack Craft or corvettes such as the Hellenic Navy's La-Combattante Class armed with either Exocet or Penguin SSM.

They are small, fast, carry a big punch, and only require a crew of some 40 odd sailors..

But as I said before, when it comes to US Oil and Gas interests, the Saratoga will come free of charge. 8)

If I were you I'd use 'straight' sailors.

No! Odd... As in sailors are quite odd...

Do they wear Foustanella's in the navy?

I thought it was compulsory!
DA is that where Fistan comes from?

I know the that in the Turkish Navy they wear Dervish costumes...

Helps them determine the wind direction...

Dervishes were banned in Turkey long time ago. Not so in Cyprus.

Not that anyone takes notice.

I often wondered. There is a similarity. Give me five.

That was quick.

Derives from Italian. Originally meant a ladies dress =fistan

Foustanella may have been derived from the same word.

Yes, I think I've seen these boats moored at a base near a village on the south coast, a village with some excellent fish restaurants. I had something a little more substantial in mind.

Whatever is needed in this area must be done. To do nothing sends the wrong messages and is negligent.

In fact to do something is reckless and negligent. There will not be a shooting war over this; to needlessly squander billions of euros on warships that are not necessary would be insane.

I do not think it would cost billions of euros for a couple of second hand boats of suitable size as ... A Deterent.

On the contrary. A few Fast Attack Craft, carrying SSM, is seriously needed to protect our small EEZ.

The boats are not that expensive, are small, and can sink any ship with just one missile.

They would provide sufficient deterrence.

This what we actually need-and is available free of charge

Whose is that? :?

That’s the problem with some of you Cypriots… you always assume that someone else will spill their blood for you when you’re not even prepared to spill yours to protect your own turf!

What the hell did the NG buy all this shit for costing billions of dollars if we must still expect others to “come”!

Turkey starts military exercise off Cyprus coast

www.chinaview.cn 2009-06-17 05:58:12

NICOSIA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Turkish forces started on Tuesday a search and rescue exercise off the northeastern coast of the divided Cyprus, prompting protest from the Cypriot government.

The three-day Caner Gonyeli Exercise, named after a Turkish soldier who was killed during the 1974 military intervention, will be mainly staged near the Karpasia Peninsula, with the participation of the breakaway Turkish Cypriot forces.

The internationally recognized Cyprus government, which effectively controls the Greek Cypriot south, has made strong demarches to the United Nations and the European Union, saying the exercise infringes on the island's sovereign right, territorial waters and its airspace.

Government spokesmen Stephanos Stephanou noted that the Turkish exercise may be linked to Turkey's objection to the government's search for oil in its exclusive economic zone.

"We have a sovereign right to carry out research in our exclusive economic zone, in accordance with the Law of the Sea convention and this is what we are doing," said Stephanou.

Turkey is at odds with Cyprus' move to hand out oil and gas project licenses in the Mediterranean. Ankara argues that Turkish Cypriots living in the breakaway north should have a say in the undersea wealth and that Turkey has its own rights and interests in the region.

Cyprus has remained divided since 1974 when the Turkish military intervened and occupied the island's north following a coup by a group of Greek officers.

Turkish Cypriot authorities in 1983 declared the establishment of the breakaway Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is recognized only by Turkey. Ankara has no diplomatic relations with the Republic of Cyprus, an EU member state since May 2004.

The Cypriot government has said that Turkey's threats and demands for its oil exploration rights in the eastern Mediterranean Sea would hinder Ankara's EU accession.

Maybe you are right but this is one thing. The important is why ROC is allowing Greek foreign minister to make holidays (last 7 years) about Cyprus problem.May be they (G/c leaders ) consider that by convisting Turks that they are Cypriots and not G Cypriots Turks will lieve Cyprus. In this regard i repat youes NEVER NEVER NEVER.As much Cypriots we became so deep the Turkish soldiers seatting in our land.
