It is in fact your acquiescence to the τουρκομόγκολοι that is the disgrace.

I have never submitted to aggression by a foreign power occupying a part of MY country. I have empathised with my fellow compatriots the T/Cs and have expressed my concern at their plight way back in the early 60s when extremists from both communities sharing your views caused so much suffering.

You are no different from the Eric Dayes and other T/C extremists , one of a kind ,
Your disgraceful anti Cyprus position is nothing short of treason.

... says the "man" who swears at the Cypriot National Anthem!

It seems to me that for a scientist you have a deficiency in logic.
Let me try once again.
We the Cypriots support the efforts and the position of our RoC government who is committed to one united Cyprus with one nation identity and total independence from either Greece or Turkey.
Does the minute amount of logic that you posses allow you to understand that the national anthem of Greece is utterly inappropriate and not in line with our stated position which is recognized the world over as the RoC AN INDEPENDENT NATION.
Concurring with the Turkish position that there are two people in Cyprus and two states is not exactly conducive to the efforts of the Cypriot people to reunite their island and live in peace with the other communities .
Thank God our RoC foreign diplomats do not share your views !

Regardless of whether a new national anthem makes sense or not, these ROC foreign diplomats will stand to attention every time the national anthem is played in honour of Cyprus. The very same anthem that President Christofias stands to attention to, the very same anthem Afxentiou was probably singing in his head before they firebombed him...the very same anthem you have a responsibility to show respect to while it is the national anthem of your country.

Using the national anthem of Greece for Cyprus was a very stupid and very provocative move by treasonous Greek nationalists as part of their greater plan to gift Cyprus, or a portion of Cyprus via double enosis to Greece.

To me the Greek anthem is a chilling reminder of the Greek coup d'etat (15th July 1974) and all that the treasonous GC Greek-nationalists stood for in their maniacal attempt to destroy sovereign Cyprus. Today it’s the last remnant of the Greek-nationalist 70s, a terrible period of the island’s history many of us are trying to forget and indeed the anthem of Cypriot traitors…

“When Cyprus was declared independent from Great Britian in 1960, other national symbols such as the flag were enshrined in the new nation's constitution, but there was no mention of an anthem. Much debates ensued, and neither community could agree on a national anthem; during foreign state visits, different instrumental marches were used. In the early 1970s, it was decided that the Greek anthem would be used by Cyprus as well. (The Turkish community does not recognize this and instead uses the Turkish anthem for their self-proclaimed nation.)”

So Afxentiou was a traitor was he? :?

I don't think I can ever abandon the Cypriot National Anthem. If it was good enough for Afxentiou, then it is good enough for me!

Perhaps we can keep our national anthem and the TCs can have their own in a United Cyprus. Switzerland is good example for us all.

However, people who preach ENOSIS or a "Hellenic Republic of Cyprus" are only cementing the partition. There is only one Republic of Cyprus and its citizens are free to express their ethnicity and heritage.

The Greek anthem was NOT part of the London/Zurich agreements and neither was it agreed upon by the people of Cyprus at a later date.

It was yet another attempt by the Greek junta and their treasonous Cypriot followers to reignite the divisive and destructive enosis ideals.

It’s an absolute disgrace that this horrible piece of “music” which began the destruction of Cyprus on the 15th July 1974 (RIK radio played this disgusting anthem over and over while our people were being slaughtered and overthrown), is still in use today 40 years on!

The Greek Junta merely inherited the anthem when they overthrew the Greek government.

Tainting the Greek National Anthem with the same brush as the Junta is the most ludicrous thing I've heard...

Surely you can do better than that...

And it is not the Greek Anthem. It is the Cypriot National Anthem .. 8)

Are you therefore saying that the Greek national anthem IS the appropriate one to have and if so would we expect the T/Cs to stand to attention too . After all we are OFFICIALY an independent nation , we are not a part of Greece .
As for your comments on Afxentiou honouring the Greek anthem , indeed he did and so did I but times have now changed , back then we did not have our own government , currency , passports and IDs neither were we members on our own merit of any international organizations .
Look guys , the fact that I believe Cyprus ought to have ITS own identity in every single aspect does not convey disrespect or respect to any nation it merely conveys the independent spirit that we ought to adopt and go forward .

I endorse fully what GR has posted which makes absolute sense. Are we or we not an independent nation , since the entire world sees us as a sovereign nation then it is time to bin this dated anthem and replace it with one that's representative of all Cypriots.
The trouble with the so called Greek nationalist is that they have not as yet embraced the Cypriot spirit , the one that inspired the people of Cyprus to recover from the calamity of 1974 , move on and create a Cyprus that is firmly in a position to become one of the most modern and prosperous nations in Europe. Amazed I have always been at how industrious and progressive the Cypriot people have been and still are today. We have achieved it as Cypriots .
