How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

According to today's headlines on Phileleftheros
Christofias has presented plans regarding the return of 110,000 refugees to the South state of a future federation. The areas included in the return amongst others are Salamina, Apostolos Andreas and Apostolos Barnabas.

Talat has responded by stating that there will have to be strong financial incentives for the TC's involved in the move.

Money, money, money, in -----'s world. Bloody cheek.

That may be so Tim, but the GC's left much more land behind than the TC's. In the aftermath of a settlement, the land in the north will instantly be priced to the same level as the south. There needs to be massive external funding for disposessed owners to get redress.

The only viable way is for as much land to be returned to GC control as possible. Even then, external funding will still be needed.

Exactly, and someone will also have to fund the "bribes" needed to encourage the majority of settlers to return home.

I'm sure I will be reprimanded for this but IF this is a genuine offer from Talat then a reciprical gesture from the ROC would put Turkey on the back foot and gain us an advantage - how about conditional permission to allow direct flights to Tymbou?

Somehow the log jam has to be broken.

No, Thats an idiotic suggestion. It is a complicated matter which involves recognition, safety and customs.

This is not an offer from talat. Its one of the diffulties he has listed in giving up land.

What they were given in the occupied areas is much more valuable than what they own. That is the problem. Otherwise what you say would work perfectly.

Has a serious study ever been undertaken into this? A lot of water has passed under the bridge since people were assigned properties on an 'equivalent value' basis. While I accept that TC-owned land in a place like Gerovasa may not be particularly valuable, the TC-owned land around Ankara street in the centre of Limassol would surely be worth a small fortune if the whole area was opened up for redevelopment.

That's why I qualified my post with IF and conditional permission, DT

The TCs are 18% and they took 36% of land and more than 50% of the coast line! What study do you want? And don't forget that land in the occupied areas is now undervalued because it is stolen. If that land goes back to the legal owner under a legal EU state then the value of that land will go much higher!

And some small parts of Limassol, Larnaca or Paphos are valuable but not equal to the whole Kerynia, Morfou and the other places! And don't forget the coast! The most valuable land in Cyprus after city centers!

A study that will establish the facts. At the moment people are just bandying assumptions back and forth.
