Milti, I am no expert in fine dining and even worst at wines, but by giving a 10 out of 10 for a Sunday lunch buffet at a hotel or even any other venue, you are leaving yourself wide open to criticism and not to be taken seriously.
BTW good morning to you too Deniz. :)

I have eaten many times at the Amathous but mostly Sunday buffet. I have also eaten at some of London's finest restaurants , remember of course that my business revolves round the Catering trade. I think when it comes to the Amathous Sunday buffet I can only give it 10 for superb excellence . Local dips , yogurts , wide selection of salads , fresh Mediterranean prawns , terrific quality smoked salmon , quails eggs , fresh , when in season radishes , spring onions , a selection of olives , pasta dishes , curry dishes , Chinese dishes as well as a selection of Roasts including Beef , Pork -served with freshly cooked apple sauce , Roast lamp , roast potatoes with fresh vegetables . A wide selection of puddings and fruits is also worth commending.
The wine list is eclectic to say the least , service is faultless and as for the ambiance what can one say , superb.

I have eaten in some of the shittiest locations in the world. Mainly from street vendors, back streets of Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, Sierra Leon,Pakistan and a few more.
Rarely had a bad meal, always the freshest of products the finest of flavours, healthy and all at very cheap prices.
Food, I believe should be simple, freshly cooked and above all cheap for all. Was foul mouth Ramsey recently caught serving food from another kitchen and charging his stupid prices ?

Ever been in any of those kitchens Purdey ?
I agree that food should be simple , provided the right mix of ingredients is used and the food is fresh . I dont know about cheap l though , some of the best lunches I had were at the Hilton Park Lane when an offer was on for Sunday buffet at £49.95 including unlimited champagne !
They always lost money when I visited !! The buffet very similar to the Amathus one and just as good , expertly prepared and very simple really.
It lasted about 4 or 5 years then they dropped the offer since it was copied by many of the surrounding Hotels the Lanesborough one of them.

I dont eat fast food in the UK neither do I ever eat from street vendors , I suppose being in the Catering equipment trade has taught me a great deal about food being sold on the cheap .!!!

Whilst in Cyprus I attended two weddings , both relatives , one on Saturday at a top Limassol hotel , not the Amathus I may add, and the other at a function hall just outside Limassol .
I dont like hotel weddings where you present your envelope , a quick drink and a sausage on a stick and bob's your uncle. !
The one at the hall was excellent , a very good selection of food available to help your self , and live bouzouki music . Loved the music , met many forgotten relatives , who all thought I was my older brother and remarked how good I looked for a 70 year old , bloody cheek , I'm still a boy at 63 !!
Talking about Hotel weddings which seem to be "fashionable " and I fully understand the reasons , if any relatives are tuned in , I hate Hotel weddings so dont invite me , here is my pin no instead 1234 !!!

I have seen some dreadful kitchens in my time, particularly in London. The beauty about some of the street places I have eaten around the world is they cook on the street. You can see what they are doing and what actually goes in to the food.
Call me old fashioned but I don't want to eat where the chef is dripping sweat into my food, scratching his arse or re-heating and microwaving already cooked food. Fast food in my eyes is burgers with chips and alike and also not for me. However fresh duck in a ginger sauce cooked with fresh vegetables in front of my eyes in under ten minutes or a Dhansak curry always beats sitting down at a table with a linen table cloth.
