YOUR ''ANNAN PLAN''

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I've got a feeling NickTheGreek has returned in yet another guise designed to wind people up... just ignore him and he'll go away...

He always used to quote this 70 virgins nonsense...

Most of TC don't have any intention to return their properties in south.

I am sorry but you should be aware of that.

Im very unhappy to hear that.
Im sure in the future people(TCs) will begin to move to the south as economic prosperity would be too attractive than staying in the north.(I hope)

On problem is we still have generations that were part of the 60s/74 problems. Once they have gone, we can look to a real solution

I suggest no more thinking we will have a solution within the next 5/10 years. Only once the older generations are gone can the reasons for staying apart be really taken away. Get rid of Denktash, Papadopoulos, and the rest of the old cronies and get some 'new blood' into cypriot politics. We are wasting our time for these guys to find a solution.

also Mohammed, please stop trying to 'create' a problem. I invite everyone to ignore him if he carries on like this.....its not worth it and not constructive
Dont let these extreme voices get to you

Dhavlos,

There is the same economic potential in the north as well. The priority should be given to exchange the properties between TC and GC although some property in north or equivalent of money should be given back to GC where TC equivalent in south is not enough.

There should be some open doors for everyone to return of course but this is where the compensation or the equivalent left in the other side is not enough.

If a solution forces %80 of TC to change its place again, that would just create new victims.

Well then the 80% of GC shouldnt have been forced either...but at least the TC wont be forced by gunpoint and rape.

Turkey...what logic makes you come ot the conclusion that Cyprus belongs to Turkey?

Now read this page http://www.lonelyplanet.com/destinations/europe/cyprus/history.htm

It says that Cyprus was taken over by the Ottomans. And then it says that there was a Turkish population in Cyprus. I am not saying the whole of the island was ours, nor Greek. There was a Turkish population and there was a Greek population. Now that is why I said, a country trying take over the whole of Cyprus would be a disaster! It would just bring war, nothing else!

Why do you always go with the most unlikely scenerio?? This idea is very very unlikely to become a reality. That is what happened between 1967 and 1974, nobody asked the Turkish and there was an intervention force, if the Turkish did a similar thing without asking the Greek, I am sure there would be a similar answer from the Greek! There was no communication between the two sides! So what you said demetriou is no option.

When will you all just learn that Cyprus belongs to no-one... we are all just custodians of the island for future generations... and what a f**king bad job we're making of it too... the sooner everyone realises that Cyprus is neither Greek nor Turkish, but possesses a unique dual culture of its own, the better off we'll all be.

Panagia, you guys exasperate me sometimes...

Turkey!

I read your stupid ranting and although I realised that you must be some very young block who has ill or partial knowledge of history and political geography and therefore worthless for to a reply, I still feel compelled to say a few things to you.

1.) Cyprus is a country by itself, likewise Turkey is.
2.) Cyprus doesn’t belong to any other country, neither tο Turkey nor tο Greece.
3.) There is no Turkish Cyprus as much as there is no Greek Cyprus. Cyprus is one, indivisible and belongs to its people -those who are eligible to be its citizens.
4.) The people of Cyprus is composed by Greek speaking, Turkish speaking, and by various other ethnic background people. In the same way that Turkey’s people is composed by ethnic Turks, Kurds, allevies, and many other people from various ethnic backgrounds including Armenian, Greek, etc, etc. Like the USA is composed by people of many ethnic backgrounds etc, etc.
5.) Cyprus doesn’t belong to Turkey, simply because it pre-existed the creation of the Turkish state. Like wise, it doesn’t belong to the Ottomans because the Ottoman empire doesn’t exist any longer and also when it existed, it was just one of the many conquering empires that occupied Cyprus by force, during its very long history.
6.) The history of Cyprus is way far longer than the appearance of the Ottoman Empire and also way far longer than the appearance of Turkish people on the planet as an ethnic entity. Cyprus has a written history of 3,500 years. Turkish people have a written history of even less than 1,000 years. The written history of Cyprus coincides with the first appearance of Greek speaking people in Cyprus, who at times were the only people living here but also in all phases of its long history, they were always the vast majority of the Cypriot people.
7.) We do not need any shallow knowledge people like you to tell us what and who we are. I know it is not your fault but rather the fault of the educational system and the nationalistic Kemalist elites of your country, which are experts in the teaching (brain washing) of creative history lessons in schools, universities and in the media.
8.) I advise you to go and do some proper studying before posting “ideas” in this forum.
9.) I will monitor your attitude and quality of your postings and if you continue with provocative postings like the previous ones in which you said that Cyprus belongs to Turkey, I will personally lobby so that you are banned from this forum.

While most of the other things you wrote might be actually right or subjectively discussable, this one is definetly wrong both in law or practice.

1) 1960 agreement states clearly that there are two ethnic groups in R of Cyprus simply called Turkish and Greeks with some "reserved" rights for each society whereas there is no single agreement signed about republic of Turkey which reserves any right for kurdish society in Turkey.

2) Prcatically it is wrong, since 1963 there have been significant seperation between two societies since TC rights were attacked and two societies are living in different sections of Cyprus ( Nicosia for example).
