There's more to life than money re... most of the richest people I know are sad, lonely people. I'm not advocating poverty but as long as I'm comfortable, happy and healthy, that's all I want from life.

Turkey CC* wrote: Turkish government will never give back land, even if some stupid leader has it in mind it won't become real, don't underestimate the huge pressure from the Turkish public!! There is a strong feeling that Cyprus belongs to us, rather than the Greeks and that includes me, I am trying to look at things without being affected but still... Lots of people I know in Turkey will never give back Cyprus!

Turkey CC* please try harder to see things without been affected. Your opinion is wrong however I understand this opinion is widespread among the masses in Turkey. You are a young person slowly slowly you will separate yourself from the illiterate masses I am sure. Anyway Cyprus belongs to the GCs and the TCs not To Turkey not to Greece.

I appreciate the fact that you expressed the truth. The Tcs know this truth but it seems the majority of Gcs don't know it. It is a fact that the Turks in Turkey will make a revolution if they "lose" Cyprus without getting something else.Especially the illiterate masses think that Cyprus belongs to Turkey!!! Look what Ecevit did just today: He reported Talat to Tr President Sezer for offering Famagusta back to the GCs without getting the approval of Turkey!!!!

The case of Cyprus and Turkey is not comparable because Turkey was not under a foreign ruler who before leaving would like to implant some time bombs.Yet in mature Democracies (e.g EU) the rights of each group even the rights of Minority groups are recognised and safeguarded. Of course Turkey is not such a state. How far away Turkey is, can be realised from what the Police in civilian clothing and black cravates did just 2 days ago at the funeral of a poor Kurd.

It says that there should be Turkish Cypriot (who is elected by TC) vice president who can veto agreements with other countries and numerous internal laws/actions. Again, I am asking: Is there any right given like that to blacks in USA or kursih in Turkey by law?

You are correct. Given right. Not earned-not a product of natural political evolution. Given right! This asnwers all your questions.

This is one thing I got out of this fprum in the recent days, Cyprus does not belong to anyone but the TCs and the GCs. For now, that I agree. But one thing I don't agree with you, MicAtCyp, is that you say illiterate to masses in Turkey. I live in Switzerland for 5 years now, after living in Turkey for 10 years. I slowly adapted to the international community and separated myself from the ideas in Turkey. But not everybody has that chance I have. Not everybody can get away and see what it is like from an international view. It would be very unfair to say illiterate to those people. I hope you understand that.

Turkey, where did you 'Cyprus belongs to Turkey' notion come from? What do they teach you in school about Cyprus history?

This is not something I learned in school. It is something you hear and learn from people as you go on in life in Turkey.

Yes, I completely agree with you first time that Cyprus and Turkey cases are not comparable, if you read the topic carefully you will realise that it is not me but kifeas comparing these two. He is stating that TC is same to kurdish in Turkey or balcks in USA. We are definetely not like them, we are the co-partners in 1960 agreements, with veto rights.

Can you please clarify this one? give links?

Thanks for declairing your opinion about 60 agreements. Well, previously some GC leadership thougt that we dont deserve that rights, they tried to take them back, then we suffered 63-74 and you suffered in 74. Is this not enough for you? What else do you want to happen so that this "political-evolution" is complete?

Detailer,
In practice the comparison is the same. If you do not like the comparison with blacks (I didn’t specify it as such any way,) then think of the Jewish or the Irish communities instead. From a social, demographic and historical perspective, the comparison or the example of the USA that I gave is perfectly analogous.

You are taking a zero sum approach when referring to the 1960 “agreements,” with the aim of justifying separate ownership and self-determination rights. Yes, it is correct that the two communities were separated in terms of exercising their political rights. Perhaps this was the main source of most of our problems though. Anyhow, if you want to argue on that basis, I may as well say that this was not something we agreed upon but rather something that was imposed on us, in the same sense that the Ottoman and British colonisation were imposed in the past.
