I KNOW they are communist...I used to play for the club ten years ago and some of my inlaws too. They are not all hardline staunch Communists but are quite left of centre. I also know people who are from that area and there is quite a leftist following round the Salamina and Famagusta area in general.

When you're next in Cyprus, go to the Omonoia clubhouse... it's a hotbed of AKEL supporters... including my father-in-law :D

As for Che Guevara, he's one of my lifelong heroes... I recommend the film and book 'Motorcycle Diaries' to anyone...

That's just about as much as my grandmother knows! Apparently, she only attended elementary school.

Exactly, Che was a classic revolutionary who had no interest in government, his view was that once revolution overthrew capitalist domination, the people would take over and run themselves. Hence when he was appointed a minister in Castro's revolutionary government, he wasn't really that interested and quickly disappeared off to lead revolutions elsewhere.

Thrill, if you haven't read 'The Motorcycle Diaries' or watched the DVD I'd recommend it as it shows how Che's personal ideology developed during his trip around South America... a fascinating insight into a fascinating figure.
