i know christofias exists, but the idea of a greek communist i think is highly hypocritical :D i just find it funny that greeks, who to me are embracers of capitalism want to be communist. Its silly.

Anyway, if they were communist then we would not have these ethnic problems because they believe in class solidarity etc... not ethnic divisions....thats why it is crap. Just a bit of a rant against communism....i dont agree with it.

What do you think about the mentality of new generations? Do you agree with me that a significant proportion of GC under 30 are ignorant against TC?

im 17 by the way. Erm definately, i can only talk about myself and people i know, but we have not really ever had or know TCs. We only know what we are told, which is usually the nationalistic stuff all the time. Although there are more cypriots than greeks, at greek school, the church and the teachers are usually greeks from greece, who have their opinions, not usually constructive ones.

What needs to happen is the GC and TC communities (especially in UK)need to begin confidence building measures, through things like festivals or gatherings promoting cypriot unity or whatever... however this can only happen if a solution is built which we can all agree to.
Maybe gatherings need not be about cyprus at all, what about music or hobbies?? this would make more sense because it would not have tensions etc that politics causes.

these events will cause trouble. if you get teenagers there it will be bad. the groups of kids will all try to be the 'hardest' and 'best' so you will find trouble. high police could work but would they bother?? plus who would organise it. greeks and turks will both try to do a better job of things.

yeh but if it is properly organised with people who want to be there then there should not really be a problem. Ok so maybe start these types of things not for teenagers, but at a younger age (5-10) when they can make freinds and not know or be prejudiced over each other.
Or maybe older people, like from mixed villages, see if they want to meet each other... then they could bring thier families...build connections etc.

Thess ideas are better than nothing

a solution wont suddenly appear and people will be instant friends...it has to take time and effort

You write older than your age! We have been learnt nationalistic stuff as well but even the most "hard-liner" TC have a space to take GC opinions in. I have a feeling that from what I see around me(british university), some GC youth simply don't mind TC existence. But I would like to learn what you and your friends feel and know about TC.

a lot of greeks i know in a way 'dislike' turks but never tell anybody. you cant erradicate TC's or GC's so they have no choice. however a lot of people will never take a turks/greek home becasue of what their family would say.

i know what you mean. i would really like to have TC friends. I did have one at primary school but we never kept in touch. We would always joke about being TC or GC and stuff in the news we heard...all lighthearted stuff.

I think it would be really useful if people (GC/TC) who are interested got to know about each other. THese type of things can only be good.

I dont really hang around with GC friends...its mainly family, but we all respect TCs. Our cleaner(i know it sounds posh but really it isnt) is a TC and we get on well with her. She used to clean my granparents house, and before she came, my grandmother was quite against it...prejudice etc.. In the end theyve become really good friends. The TC ladys sister used to come round too, and now, when my gran goes to cyprus, she sometimes goes to the north to visit her.

Its really a happy story, and its this kind of thing that should be promoted.

If you dont belive in Greek Communists...then go into the Salamina Football Club clubhouse (the same cafe where the kids were waving 'TRNC' flags at 65+ year old men) and take a look at the huge Che Guevara banner.
