How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

All that you are saying is that the TCs preferred oppression under the Colonialist British rather than freedom under the Greeks, and were willing to thwart the attempts of the majority to fight for freedom for the Island.

Or, to put it another way, they preferred oppression (relatively benign) under the British to freedom, Greek style, like the Turks in Crete some 30 years previously (where are they now?) and the freedom enjoyed by Turks in Greece at the time.

It is important to put these things in their historical context.

Where are they now? Are you mixing up your present, out of context, with the past?

The oppression on the GCs was two fold ... that imposed by the British Colonialists, and that imposed by a TC minority who thought it right to subjugate the rightful desire for freedom of a majority. Obviously, as you say, not because they wanted freedom themselves, (they favoured "benign" British rule), but it was more important the majority were also denied their total freedom.

Maybe you should read up on how "benign" British colonialism was ... or are you comparing it to the Turkish-style?

Just picked up on this thread and read that some are interested in finding out about their relatives serving in British armed forces during the second world war. The best place to pursue this, at least to begin with on the web is at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/

Lots of those questions about campaign medals can also be answered here.
