Moose where did you get these figures?

I try to keep as many archives as I can about the Cyprus Problem, and would like to read thi source. Even it's not on the internet I can still may be access to the source and make a copy of it for my collection.

If it's not CONFIDENTIAL of course.

Of course it's not confidential turkcyp. It's a book I have in my collection on Cyprus called Cyprus, As I Saw It In 1879 by Sir Samuel W. Baker. He was one of the first British administrators to arrive on the island and wrote an account of his travels around Cyprus evaluating the colony's economic potential for the government. Some of it makes for extremely quaint reading and makes you realise how much has changed in 125-odd years. I'd highly recommend it. Not wishing to advertise, but you can order it from amazon relatively cheaply, or I'm sure somewhere like the Moufflon Bookshop in Lefkosia should have copies of it. Both in my experience are good sources for books on Cyprus anyway.

By the time of the first British census of the island in 1881, Greek Cypriots numbered 140,000 and Turkish Cypriots 42,638.
This puts TCs at just over 23%.

Got this from a North Cyprus 'facts' website:

http://www.cypnet.com/.ncyprus/main/fac ... opulat.htm

From what I know between about 1880 and the 1930s there was a steady exodus of TCs from the island, particularly after 1915 when the Brits annexed Cyprus from the Ottoman Empire, resulting in the much-quoted 18.5% TC population of the 1960 census.

This is the counting of the people within the walled city of Nicosia! Not the entire Cyprus! Even before 1974, the population of the walled city was half and half becasue the Ottoman Turks butchered 20,000 GCs when they occupied Nicosia in 1570 and took their houses and properties and became the aristocracy of that time!

This link claims to show the results of population census' for the countries of the world:

http://www.geohive.com/global/geo.php?x ... ensus#Asia

The 1881 census puts the population of Cyprus at 186,173
which ties well with the figures from the other website if you take Armenians, Latins and Brits into account.

Those were the figures I was looking for Alexi. You're also right about the exodus of TCs after WW1 and when the island was made a crown colony.
