Let's get hypothetical. What about a US/Israeli/UK seizure of the Eastern Mediterranean undersea oilfields?

With such a logic in mind, it won't be too long before we have another (and final this time for life on earth) World War. How old are you?

Considering you try to portray yourself on this forum as an authorative figure worthy of respect for your opinions and arguments you sure have an unpleasant streak to you, Kifeas. Do you consider yourself to be an arrogant person?

Here's my reasoning. I pose a perfectly reasonable question to initiate the thread. Within the first fifteen or so responses there is absolutely no indication of a positive response, but plenty of evidence of the usual resorting to inter-community bickering and point-scoring. I try to get the thread back on track by posing a scenario, admittedly fairly far-fetched but also possible, which I make clear is hypthetical. You choose to respond with a sensible comment, but then can't resist posting again with your implied insult. Rather immature Kifeas, rather immature. How old are you?

What kind of hypothetical situation should I suggest - an alien invasion intent on destroying all humankind?

I think the word "seizure" gave him a seizure of his own...

Here is another scenario. Kurds become the 60% of the population in Turkey. They revolt against the Turks. Greece and Cyprus help them. The Kurds take over Turkey, they rename it to Kurdey and they ban Turkish. From then on Cyprus and Kurdey are good allies :D

I have a dream…

Cyprus finds “unlimited” oil and gas while every other well around the world dries up!

Good to see someone has an imagination! Chances of this happening?

All of that? Including the "Kurdey" part? It will not happen like that but I think that sooner or later Turkey will have a huge problem with the Kurds.

Although I can see the obvious advantages to Cyprus of these findings of oil below its territorial waters, on the wider perspective my heart sinks at the thought that every newly found oilfield delays further the impetus to replace this planet-destroying energy source with one that is clean, readily available to all, and therefore of lesser geopolitical influence. That's not to say I believe Cyprus should sacrifice itself and not tap into these resources for the greater (world-wide) good!!!!!!

But you do have a point - until the alternatives come along, these dwindling, finite resources are going to shape world events more and more. Russian control of gas into most of Europe a good current example.

 Let me get this straight… after 40 years we find the ONLY reason that would make the US kick Turkey out of Cyprus and you want to go Green??? Traitor!

Kurds in Turkey - a minority community of 18-20% - appears to cause problems! Sound familiar in Cyprus?
