NICOSIA - President Demetris Christofias stressed on Tuesday that he has made no concessions in the Cyprus problem, pointing out that he has no intention of doing so in the future.

Any such move, he said, would be harmful for the people of Cyprus and efforts to reach a settlement of the island's political problem.

He said the Cyprus problem should be solved on a basis acceptable by the Greek Cypriot side too.

Commenting on remarks by Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat that the Turkish Cypriots should obtain at least 29% of the territory and that they had not agreed on giving back Morphou, Christofias said negotiations via the media do not help.
''I suspect Mr. Talat is under pressure internally and from Turkey, to make such statements, which of course do not help."

Asked if the UN envoy Alexander Downer was exerting pressure on political party leaders for a settlement, Christofias said this matter would be looked into.

''The main aim is not to make enemies but to win friends.''

the turks are some what cleaver they come to the table insisting on things they know we will say NO to then for show tell eu and un there is no chance of solution and to accept the TRNC as a seperate state as the best solution seing as both sides cannot agree on whats right on a solution.. trying to take ovr all of cyprus but in the form of partition... well turkey can go f themselvs...

and no i dont think that is.. im just giving u an example of an unacceptable solution to turks and one some on this side would be happy to see... why should we split our island for turks a minority on our island?

i think there should be one cyprus one people and none of this two state crap.. from up close i never see such hatred between the sides only on the net,, i talk with tcs online through skype and msn and in person i met some nice tcs and none seem to care about the cy problem and are happy to live together.. and going to larnaka this morning i saw many tc number plates.
