Frustration at Cyprus - Syria ferry

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE 03.JUN.09

Foreign Minister Marcos Kyprianou has discussed issue of ferry routes between Syria and the occupied part of Cyprus with Syrian officials.

Mr Kyprianou conceded that the Syrian government has not given a reply to Cyprus' request that the routes be cancelled, despite setting out legal and political issues arising from such routes.

Syria insists that the routes are a private concerns and do not affect Syria's position of not recognizing the illegal regime in the occupied part of Cyprus.

Mr. Kyprianou has visited Damascus to prepare a visit there by President Christofias - expected later this year. -

Your confusion is obvious.

The Syrian government is unable to interfere in some private affair.

Syria insists that the routes are a private concern ..

It does however, despite this common failing, reaffirm it does NOT recognise the illegal regime of occupation ...

... do not affect Syria's position of not recognizing the illegal regime in the occupied part of Cyprus.

Isn't that what is politically more important, than some "away with the ferries" little fishing boat sailing back and forth occasionally?

So, you do not consider it damaging that (even) your "friends" proclaim your occupation of Cyprus as illegal?
