How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Talat Informs Turkish Cypriot Villagers

Postby halil » Mon Jun 01, 2009 11:34 am

He has started visiting villages around the Republic with the aim of informing the residence of the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.
Noting that many problems being faced by villagers would be solved automatically through a solution, the President drew attention to the fact that Turkey was also in favor of a solution being found in Cyprus.

Explaining that during the negoations process the two sides had reached some agreement on many issues, ‘the only issue that will be difficult to solve is the issue of land’, said the President.

‘Considering the Turkish side had agreed on 29% plus as a starting point on the land issue, we will have to give up on some of our land’, he added.
‘There is no need to worry though, none of the investments that have been made in the Republic will go to waste’, said the President.

Sounds a bit like a PR exercise to prepare some villages for bad news, I'm not sure what he means by:- ‘There is no need to worry though, none of the investments that have been made in the Republic will go to waste’, said the President

Paid by who Deniz? I am starting to have a sneaky feeling that there is going to be a settlement later this year. I think there are "talks" going on behind the scene that we know nothing about and we may be in for a pleasant surprise in the autumn. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I do not for one moment believe that everyone will be happy. There always be losers and winners. There shouldnt be either, but that involves a miracle.

Paid by who? You may well ask! Who has the dosh? American oil companies making a buck or two out of Cypriot oil?

I think Talat is telling the people indirectly that their investments indeed has not been wasted, because they had invested in their new country of unified Cyprus, which will benefit them in the long run whether or not their homes will end up being part of the north state or the south state, since a lot of the land presently in the north will need to be returned back to the GC's to be part of the south state..!

Note that 29 per cent is the starting point. Presumably that means that the final percentage will be less than that.

He added to that, that the [TCs] should not be worried about it. I wonder what that means? I suppose its political talk.
