How many Brit. Soldiers were really killed by EOKA?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

On another thread, David Carter maintains that he never said that all were killed by EOKA. He says some died from illness, traffic accidents etc. Should these have beem included into that list?

Deniz
you can count yourself if you like...cause of death is written on some of those names and i just counted over 154 shot dead or blasted away by Eoka bombs..
those who died in illness or traffic accidents are not included in that 154 i counted..
Majority of the deaths have no explanation in that list and this is something the MOD has to answer..but they are far too many to have been caused by illness or accidents..(those are stated anyway)

Belli ki benden de daha sabırlısın. I did not count all of them. Agreed that the MOD has a few questions need answering. Shabby accounting to say the least. Nothing much has changed since, has it.

What's that term for obtaining money under false pretences? :? Extortion? Well, the DT should be well acquainted with such terms, having exposed all those PM's practices!

Either way, those responsible for supplying these figures to the Telegraph, which look like an attempt to bolster donations for this "Memorial", should make amends pretty fast ...

"These are Brits on foreign soil and we need the opportunity to remember them," said Lt Gen Sir Henry Beverley, who served in Cyprus with the Royal Marines and is now a patron of the British Cyprus Memorial Trust.

Perhaps this nice 'gentleman' could set them straight? .....

how did I get mixed up in this?

Maybe they are talking about the less well known DT, the Daily Telegraph.

I don't know what the MoD's actual official figures are.

But this is very careless of a major newspaper in the throes of honest accounting, to state nearly 400 were killed by "terrorists" ... when it now appears that some 70% died from 'other causes' .... unless influenza, tripping over, etc. are also labelled "terrorists" by DT - (not DT. ).

... and to think the Telegraph and 'Cyprus Memorial Trust', could be using this emotive inflation to "appeal" for funds for a "Memorial"

Dishonesty or desperation?

Cyprus memorial

‘Sensationalism’ maybe but more likely a sloppy journalist who made wrong assumptions because he/she did not check out the facts before making the statement. Surely, to read more into it than that is also ‘sensationalism’. Whatever the cause of death they died on Cypriot soil, a long way from home and should have some memorial.

Sloppy journalists are abound and I am not arguing about the Memorial itself.

Misinformation which can be disproved is a useful tool for the opposing side, dont you think. Ideally we would like nothing but the truth, the whole truth and all.

Who was it who said, 'The First Casualty of war is....'?
