Reducing our Carbon Emissions to help Cyprus ...

Postby Oracle » Sat May 30, 2009 3:40 pm

In preparation for the possibility of Cyprus becoming a Net producer of Petroleum; I propose we pull together to cut down our Carbon emissions in other ways, so that we do not feel guilty contributing to Global warming ...

So, any suggestions for easy Greener switch-overs? :D

Our dearest darling President is now leading the way for us .... :D

Cyprus palace seeks to be world's greenest power base

NICOSIA (AFP) — The presidential palace in the Mediterranean island of Cyprus is aiming to become the world?s greenest, emissions-free seat of power, a research institute said on Thursday.

The British colonial era building will undergo eco-friendly modifications to serve as a prototype for government buildings everywhere, The Cyprus Institute which will carry out the task said in a statement.

The non-profit science and technology research institute is undertaking a study of the presidential palace in a bid to make it a zero-energy building that emits zero emissions, it said.

Current palace resident, Cyprus President Demetris Christofias, has given the scheme his full backing and wants the transformation to be complete as soon as possible.

The presidential palace was formerly called Government House and was the residence of the British Governor of Cyprus during the 1878-1960 British rule over the island.

The sandstone building was built in the 1930s, after a previous wooden structure was burnt down.

It was badly damaged during a Greek-engineered 1974 coup to oust then president Archbishop Makarios and restored several years later, although bullet holes on exterior walls were left untouched.

Hey JimB .... you seem to have missed the point of this thread! :D

I'm not advocating using less petrol  ... After all, that is what is going to drive the Cyprus economy soon (as well as drive the Turks out  )

... But I am looking for ways of off-setting this expenditure with other environmental savings ... such as that which the President is doing! :D

As for his Chauffeur ... Go man go! 8)

How's he going to power this palace? Solar energy, wind turbines, his own hydrogen cell power generator????

I thought all the electricity here came from the same electricity company that has just been fined millions for using the most environmentally unfriendly fuel that there is (and coincidentally passed that fine on to it's loyal and long suffering customers).

If he's going to offset with buying carbon credits then where is this money going to come from ????

I smell a rat
