Cyprus swine flu initial test is positive

LIMASSOL - Preliminary tests for swine flu on a 38-year-old foreign woman who has just returned from the US are positive, hospital sources said on Friday.

The woman, who has been admitted to Limassol General Hospital for further tests, is a permanent resident of the island.

Late last night, tests on a Cypriot female student who returned home from Edinburgh with symptoms of swine flu confirmed she did not have the illness. The student has been released from Limassol Hospital.

The Cyprus health ministry has confirmed a new suspected case of swine flu is being looked into today.

According to reports, a 38-year-old foreigner has been admitted to Limassol General Hospital for further tests.

The woman, who is a permanent resident, had just returned from a trip to the USA.

It was confirmed last night that a student being tested for the same condition was negative and has been released from hospital.

The World Health Organization reported 9,830 diagnosed cases in 40 countries, including at least 79 deaths.

i think there is a bit too much panic with the whole swine flu thing.
we recently went to the uk and came back with flu like symptoms, after a few days we were ok.
just a normal flu.
we came back from a holiday in turkey a few years ago, when they had the avian flu, hubby who was ill had loads of tests but didn't have it.
just shows they can panic you into believing.

On my last visit over home I sneezed on the plane. I still don't think that the man in the next seat was convinced I was just suffering from 'allergies' and not 'swine fever'!
