Can I just say that I think it unlikely that US flagged ships will be doing the surveying. The US oil company is more likely to sub-contract to a more local survey company.

The Republic of Cyprus has authorized "Noble Energy", a United States firm, to start searching for oil and gas deposits off the Cypriot coast. Director of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Solon Kassinis said the government granted a license to the Houston, Texas-based company last year to explore one of 11 blocks inside the island's exclusive economic zone. The block is close to a large undersea gas deposit that Noble located off Israel, which according to the company's Web site is estimated at 5 trillion cubic feet. Mr. Kassinis said the discovery raises optimism about gas potential inside Cyprus' zone that covers 51,000 square kilometers of seabed.

The Turkish military is talking tough.

A Turkish officer, who requested anonymity, declared in front of “Huriet” newspaper that the Turkish navy is on the watch and will interfere in case of the American company starting the researches in the Mediterranean.

Quote was taken from a Bulgarian NA based in Athens:

The article goes on the say that:

the Turks have rated the petrol in the area as worth 400bil euro.

How would they know?

They need to know because they need to prepare for how many tankers they will need for when you find it. They will say thank you. They are civilised and all that.

You reek desparation...there's been no oil found yet chill out. When and IF any is found then Turkey can do its best to steal it like everything else on this island since 74.

Correct me if wrong but I think the last time a country tried to go against US oil interests was IRAQ back in the nighty's. Saddam was fool enough to invade Kuweit...

Hmmm...
