sorry btu the turks are hypocrits and bastards that want to take everything... the south is our part of the island and whatever is in it is OURS since when do we have ANY say what goe son in the north or the resources???? and on top of that they want two states and control over all the island!!! thats basically control over the full island and gcs NOTHINg diladi the minority takes control of the island...

you turks can go BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEp urselfs just try stop them and u idiots will get whats coming to u,

Palio ... even the northern part of the Island and its shoreline etc belong to the RoC and what Turkey is worried about is when Cyprus gains phenomenal wealth and influence with the Oil from the southern territories, it won't be able to stop us with the next phase which is a mighty show of regaining our whole Island and its resources ....

This is for Yfred who asks if Greece has exploited oil in the Aegean.

1- Greece has been drawing oil from the Prinos oil field in the Aegean since the late 1970s.

2- The major oil sites in Greece are not in the Aegean. The island of Zakynthos has known oil wells which were used in the 1980s. Turkey will have to go '''''''itself as far as these fields go since they are in the western part of Greece and unquestionably within Greek territory and within the 12 mile limit. Italy and Greece have no problems in the Ionian sea, for the simple reason that Italians are not greed driven like the Turks, and they obey international law.

3- There are land based reserves of oil in the middle of Greece around the town of Ioannina.

Exploration of all the above is starting now in earnest. The reason it did not hapen sooner is due to the pressure exercised by oil majors on Greece.

Eventually Turkey will have to accept the Law of the Sea convention if it expects to enter the EU.

In the case of Cyprus the American involvement hastens the acceptance of the Law of the Sea. Egypt has already told the Turks to bugger off, so has America. They can send all the fleets of the world to the area, they cannot touch an American ship and they know it despite the bravado in the press.

I know there is one dollar-hungry forumer rubbing his hands with glee  ... but for the rest of us, we must never lose sight of the fact that this hopeful good fortune for the RoC is a major way to negotiate back our whole Island and see the return of the refugees to their rightful homes ....
