I was returning rather late from a friend's house in St James's Square London (13th August 2008) and was slightly inebriated at the time, I had the misfortune to trip over the guy ropes of a tent which was sited on the pavement in the square and I tumbled into a heap of plastic bags (fortunately).

A rather bedraggled looking chap emerged from the confines of the tent and treated me to a barrage of verbal abuse the like of which would put Miltiades to shame (well perhaps not) and I was gobsmacked.

I apologised of course for my intrusion on the chap's privacy but pointed out that a 'Tent' was something of an unexpected encounter in such salubrious surroundings.

The chap informed me that he was protesting about the treatment he had received from a builder in Cyprus, he supplied me with details which would enable me to research his complaint and I subsequently did so.

Thus, a few days later, I found myself member to this delightful set and may I say that it has been (thus far) a particularly enjoyable experience.

Thank you Dwyer O'Conor (the chap in the tent) I would never have had the pleasure of encountering Miltiades had it not been for you.

A few years back I came across this other forum. I was in search of information on the Orams case. I was having a daily battle with a cyberian called, 'the EOKA fighter'. I guessed his age to be about 12. About that time I came accross one GR. He was polite and very witty. He sounded like a 'budding politician' but with little knowledge. It was at his behest and invitation that I joined the CF, where 'sensible' and deep debates were held. GR also invited me to a footy match in Nicosia (was it Omonia v Apoel?). I flew in to Cyprus at easter time to meet his lovely wife - and him.

Anyway, at the beginning I found the CF as GR had described. Since then it has sadly gone downhill. There seems to be no control of the racial/verbal abuse under the guise of 'freedom of speech'. Even when the Admin will take steps eventually, to dampen things down, the - what I will call racist attacks - or anything anti TC/T goes on unabated.

What has happened GR?
A great shame really, as I have made quite a few friends among the Cypriots of all shades and perhaps one or two 'enemies' ( I hope I am wrong).

As everyday passes I find myself less tolerant to these pointless attacks to either side.

So, I feel that my links to the CF will snap completely soon. I am waiting for 'the last straw that will break this camels back'. I think I know from what quarter I might get the last straw.

Enjoy

Deniz, I have to say that you are 100% right.....and it's not often I agree with you is it!

Everyday the small group of members bitch about one and other and it's really becoming very boring and very predictable. A thread is posted by one of these members and it soon turns into a slagging match.

Apart from the Cy Problem pages this forum really has very little relevance to Cyprus IMO.

Some of the threads are pointless and do not help people with interests in Cyprus.

We can all disagree with out the abuse Z4. 85% of the forumers are quite capable of not being like that. Its the other 15% who are doing untold damage to among members.

Thanks for agreeing with me, even if it is only this once.

He abandoned his tent (probably feared being sued by Floda  ) and now his hearing has started ... so I guess he has to shut up by order of the court. 8)

Talking of Connor - what has happened to him? Both his websites have not been updated for sometime. Anyone know anything?

Joined the site when the likes of City, Canned Moose, Brother, Erolz and a few more were posting here. Political talk used to stay in the correct forums, meaning the general chat was a general chat forum, and not a war with handbags flying around everywhere, arguments on who has the biggest and best handbag.

Things certainly have gone downhill since those days....
