Can anyone help with Water Supply problem?

Postby Gra41 » Wed May 27, 2009 3:07 pm

Can anyone help me with water supply problem?

I have a new build apartment in Paphos and the water pressure is insufficient to properly fill the water tank on the apartment roof.

The builders say that the pump fitted is as per the water boards specification despite it not functioning adequately and the water board say it is the builders problem.

The question is who is right and whose responsibility is it to ensure correct pressure to fill the tank? If no one knows the answer, where can we find out??

Any help would be appreciated!

I would say that it is the water boards responsibility to ensure sufficient pressure to reach the tank on you roof. Having said that, due to the current water cuts it often occurs that people on higher ground, being the last to get water when the supply is turned on, ussually install a tank and a pump at ground level to ensure that a supply reaches the roof. I don't think it is really the developer's problem, they are not responsible for the water pressure.

I'm afraid this is part of the charm of living on this island.

One body won't speak to the other, neither will agree but both will blame the other.

Neither arms knows what the body is doing and no one cares. Eventually you'll get it fixed but you have to go through this playing games situation until you wear them down by repeated phone calls and/or letters.

Sorry I can't be more help but go back three centuries and you'll get the idea. 21st Century? forget it.

I think you should first check if a water pressure system…

1. Has been installed!
2. Has it been installed properly?
3. Is the power turned on?

Assuming its there and working ok, (should make funny noises every so often) then you should jot down the brand and model of the pump AND control panel so that you can check if what’s been fitted is what’s been allegedly recommended.

Also, by having the brand and model you can search the Internet for a user’s manual to check/test the control panel.

Some websites that may be relevant for enquiries…

The Water board of Limassol
http://www.wbl.com.cy/english/index.php

The Water Development Department
http://www.moa.gov.cy/moa/wdd/Wdd.nsf/i ... enDocument

Alternatively, see if you can return the pump & control to the builder/developer and get a reimbursement to use towards a better one.

The one I have and works great is a “Grundfos”…

If the problem was with the water board then all buildings in the area would have the same problem. Do they? If you are the only one who has a problem then it is your builders fault. If that pump is not sufficient he should put for you a bigger pump and if there is a problem with the water board then he should fix it not you. Is the problem that the water tank doesn't get filled or that you don't have enough pressure?

Many thanks to you three forum users for your reponses, they are of high quality and very speedy!

CBBB - you have hit the nail on the head, the tank is higher than everyone else and a pump / tank solution might work. I am worried that there might be health issues with a tank though. any thoughts?

Cyprusgeoff, I'm afraid I agree with you. Maybe litigation is the only way forwards.

Get Real! We do have a water system and it grates me to say that we were charged extra for it! The problem is that even the best pressurised water system can only pump water if it is in the tank in the first place, hence the problem. The link for the Development Board is great, not heard of this previously, will investigate, many thanks!

Sotos, thanks for your reply. Only our building has the problem (9 apartments in total I think). The one bar pressure from the water board is not enough to get the water to the tank on the roof and it is not getting filled. Thereon our pressurised water system takes over but of course there is no water for it to pump back down to the apartment!
