HRISTOS PURGURIDIS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

HRISTOS PURGURIDIS

Postby halil » Wed May 27, 2009 2:30 pm

TRNC Foreign Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun has said that it was not surprising that the Greek Cypriot MP Hristos Purguridis who signed a motion on human rights of the Turks living in Greece at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe - PACE was accused with disloyalty.

Evaluating the issue, Mr. Ozgurgun explained that both the Greek Cypriot Administration and Greece accused Mr. Purguridis with disloyalty and noted that his party DISI also announced that they will not renew the Greek Cypriot MPs duty at the PACE.

Pointing to the human right violations the Turkish community has been facing in Greece for many years, the Foreign Minister reminded that the Greek Cypriot side went forward and approved a decision at the Greek Cypriot House of Representatives which was supporting Greece.

Noting that the ROC President Demetris Christofias who came to power with ‘solution and unification’ promises is continuing his negative and intransigence approach to Turkish Cypriots, Mr. Ozgurgun stated that his latest statements showed that Mr. Christofias is considering that he would gain advantages on the Cyprus issue by threatening Turkey’s EU membership process.

The Foreign Minister also added that the Turkish Cypriot People is ready to give every struggle to protect its rights arising from its history on the island and the international agreements.

How this EU parliament is voting is something to be checked. Few days ago i saw in Greek television that Greek members of EU Parliament gave a negative vote in a resolution asking Turkey to withdraw the army from Cyprus . (All members of PASOK and ND.!!!).It seems that many people in that room are voting and then read what was the subject!!!

Halil, my theory was always that the party (country) which is asking resolutions of int bodies for its rights is usually the looser!!!See Cyprus. If Cyprus collect all UN and other resolutions it will need the area of Nicosia to accomodate them.Of course despite that is still the looser in the real life.
It sounds good for me that Turkey started to collect also some resolutions. This means to be that something better is underway for the Greek side!!!!
