Intensive care?

NOT a laughing matter GR! Another terrible tragedy, may he rest in peace.

Can you give us any more information please "Paphos Childminder"?
Where, types of vehicles, any others hurt - a newspaper link etc.? Thanks.

From the news, it looked like a white 125cc endurance or motocross bike lying in the middle of the road. Driver survived, passenger dead… I think they’re both Brit permanent residents.

If they really want to get to the bottom of this, they should find out who owns the bike and enquire why these juveniles had it in their possession. If the owner gave his permission then he should be tried and locked up for manslaughter.

Hi sorry thats my fault its what we call payments at the private hospital i work in i got confused, he was a friend of my sisters and its is upsetting. It was near the same place as the other accident and again it was late on a saturday evening. The boys were both aged 13-15 and its believed that nobody else was involved just them and the handle bar snapped and they lost control. It is very sad and I feel for their families

Thank you GR!

I have now found the link;

Teenage death

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy was killed in a scooter accident yesterday morning in Paphos.

According to the police, the victim was riding passenger on the bike, driven by a 15-year-old friend.

For reasons still unclear, the driver lost control of the scooter, sending the bike skidding onto the tarmac. The 15-year-old suffered extensive injuries, and is being treated at Paphos general hospital; his condition is non life-threatening.

Two helmets were found near the scene of the accident, but it is not clear whether the two boys - both British nationals and permanent residents of Cyprus - were wearing them at the time.

And still no action from the Pafos police concerning these underage riders.

They ride because they can and they have no idea of the danger and until their parents and the police start taking some responsibility these deaths will continue.

I suppose until future death of these teenage boys touches the families of
the police they will continue to do nothing.

When they learn in the early hours of the morning that one of their Sons has lost his life they will learn then the utter devastation, the heartbreak and the total sorrow of losing a child.

I don't think their is anything in the world that is likely to cause families such grief or anguish

Such sadness empties your whole life. It effects all the family members equally and the tears from your partner and the brothers and sisters left to deal with it are heart rending.

I feel so sorry for all the relatives of all the families of these boys who have lost their lives over the last few days.

That was no scooter... I saw it on TV!

Cyprus Mail should hire some competent journalists who know the difference between a mountain and a slope, a car and a truck, a tooth pick and a pole volt!

Unlicensed driver killed in Paphos accident
By Elias Hazou

ONE fatality and three serious injuries is the toll of the latest deadly road accident which took place in Paphos on Sunday evening.

The latest casualty is 21-year-old Ahmad Ahmad Alkalaf, a Syrian national, the driver of the car that caused the fierce collision just outside the community of Emba. According to eyewitnesses, Alkalaf failed to stop at an intersection, and was rammed by an oncoming jeep driven by a 42-year-old and his 18-year-old daughter as passenger.

The impact threw the jeep off course, and it in turn smashed into a third vehicle, driven by a 66-year-old woman and her husband on the passenger seat.

Alkalaf was critically injured and rushed to Paphos general hospital; he succumbed to his injuries later the same night. His 16-year-old passenger, also from Syria, is in serious condition, as are also the 66-year-old woman and her husband in the third car. The two people aboard the jeep suffered slight injuries, were treated at Paphos general and discharged.

According to the police, Alkalaf did not have a driver’s licence and was operating the saloon, which was in rundown condition, without an MOT. The car was a heap of mangled metal.

Paphos Traffic Police are still unclear about the precise circumstances of the accident, but it is believed that Alkalaf was speeding at the time.

The Syrian is the fourth fatality in Paphos in the last week, and the eighth since the beginning of the year.

Last Saturday, a 13-year-old boy, riding passenger on a scooter, died after the bike veered off the road

Thimos Psathis, head of Paphos Traffic Police, said the intersection on the Emba-Tala road had adequate signs, but conceded that perhaps more precautions could have been taken.
