The Cypriot identity is a myth

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

No, we won't if, by implication, you won't pay any attention to at least a third of the Cypriot nation (a whole third!) who had no option but to flee Cyprus because of extreme economic hardship, foreign exploitation, political persecution, inter-communal violence, war, division and homelessness but who nevertheless kept the memory of a free, united and unpolarised Cyprus alive in their hearts, and in their children's hearts.

Cypriots who had the indomitable spirit to campaign tirelessly for justice and for freedom for their ancestral homeland and for all its people in the cold, uncaring and discriminatory foreign lands in which they find themselves.

I also don't understand why being Hellenic is incompatible with being a Cypriot citizen ...

The RoC doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

My centuries old lineage of Cypriot ancestors would turn in their graves if they thought there was problem with it ... and my Hellenic ancestors in Greece would think the Turks have really gotten under our skins if we cannot be comfortable with being Hellenic and living on Cyprus as Cypriots ...

Only GR! and the Cypriot seem unable to be truly all-encompassing Cypriots ...

If people are insecure, unsure or just plain confused about their ethnic makeup they don't have to attack everyone else for not having the same defficiencies. As GR! said its all man made anyway, everyone has an opinion on what or who he/she is.

I’m intrigued now as to how you’re “connected” to Greeks… perhaps you might want to explain that to me next time we’re half-way down a bottle… you’ll need it!

Will be my pleasure. :D

You're doing a great job. Now, do you have any idea whatsoever about what a typical 16 yr old Cypriot kid is growing up like or a typical 30 yr old Cypriot is raising a young family like?

I have half my dad's family split between the UK and Canada, there's one thing we all agree on. They're stuck on an image of Cyprus in the 60's-70's and we've moved on.

Irrelevant.

It's not irrelevant. The point is Cyprus is recognised internationally as a nation in its own right. So you should recognise people's right to declare their Cypriot "ethnicity" if they so wish.

So do those Brits call themselves of Gibraltese Ethnicity because they live on the recognised Rock of Gibraltar?... No they are British!

My worry is your ill-thought out playground game of playing "ethnicities" will open the floodgates for any new arrival to Cyprus to claim the same.

Nothing you or GR! have said could prevent them from doing just that!

Be warned DT that I’m racist as I don’t like half-baked Cypriots, so if you prove that you’re part “Hellenic” you’re getting thrown out the house! Image

The population here is 850,000. WOrk it out, I'll even let you throw in those 3rd generation kids that think Cyprus is a bit like Marbella but with a lot more of those annoying relatives.
