“Ethnicity” cannot be proved because it's an IMAGINED grouping of people based on assumed and imagined characteristics, the origins of which are even further assumed and imagined!

I’ll bet the Turkish Cypriots DO see themselves as an “ethnicity” even though they’ve only been around for 400 odd years on Cyprus, yet the indigenous Cypriots who have been here for 10,000 years and who existed before anything “Greek” ever existed are being questioned about theirs! The mind boggles…

There are established reasons why certain groupings (ethnicity) exist! .... and the main one for the majority of Cypriots is Hellenic because, despite what you would like to believe, they mixed/intermarried for thousands of years with mainland Greeks, back and forth ... more so than with any other ethnicity.

I get your point, but you're still choosing to associate with an ethnicity despite them being man-made as you say. Wouldn't it be better if you Just discard all of them and state your statehood alone?

I'd be more than happy to discard "ethnic" bollocks, but for as long as the enemies of Cyprus are using such rubbish to keep our country in disarray then I will proclaim mine and remind them that nobody has exclusive authority to ethnic trend-setting and don’t ever kid yourselves into thinking that there’s a scientific formula for establishing or calculating it!

A Cypriot is a citizen of Cyprus who has allegiance to the RoC. He can be of Greek, Russian, Armenian etc extraction. Just like Greeks are citizens of Greece but may be of American, Egyptian etc extraction.

I don't think it was the Greeks who decided to identify Cypriots ... as Greek Cypriots ... Many of the islands or smaller kingdoms had civilisations going back as far as the Cypriot one ... but Greece is not identified by any one of the smaller states. Just as Cyprus is not identified by any one of the smaller kingdoms which it had.

You need to get to grips with classifications, because if it is only the order of the name which disturbs you, then you could be sacrificing Cyprus to the Turks who will just eat it up, regardless of name or ingredients, just because you have not found a name to call the dish on the menu, yet!
