My mother is mainland Greek, but my father and I were born on Cyprus.

Such mixing between those born in Greece and those in Cyprus has been common for thousands of years.

Is there a problem?

You don't need to say "mainland". Greek is enough.

By that, I meant she is not from one of the Greek Islands ... ... but north of Athens.
