The Cypriot identity is a myth

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Because you do not. Please reconcile tc and GC culture. Please explain how they are one and the same.

How many times do you need to be told that Greece under the junta was not Greece? Obviously this will go on ad nauseam - for whatever reason you have an axe to grind against Greece, ok, that's your prerogative. You are perfectly free to go on merrily with what's left of your life thinking that turks are your friends and that Greece is your enemy.

I speak as an outsider who knows both communities quite well, and I consider that there exists a unique Cypriot culture which is shared by Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

Even after 35 years apart and with the amount of mixing TCs do daily with mainland Turks?

I think you may be suffering from that Colonial Master's illusion of thinking all the "natives" look the same.

Because the Greeks who live in Cyprus have no identity distinct from the Greek identity (or as we have previously discussed, a local flavour of the Greek identity, just like in many places in Greece).

If you were so isolated and so different and have existed separate from Greece for so long, the language, predominant religion, and cultural & social mores of the Greek Cypriots would've diverged drastically from that of mainland Greece and her closer islands. But in fact these indicators of ethnos (ok, they're not the only ones) have not changed so markedly. Ergo, you're a Greek!
- Cypriot

If i understand well,Cypriot as Ethnicity, includes also North Cyprus and settlers of course who get nc nationality. If we speak about Cyprus Ethnos then what is this all about invasion/occupation and other bshts? The people came in Cyprus to protect our brothers and sisters (tcs) why you are complaining - they are protecting a part of Cyprus Ethnos!!1

Exactly! They (Ethnic Cypriots) have created the perfect way for the Anatolian settlers to quickly identify themselves with the natives ... because of course the natives are no different historically/ethnically to anyone who just says they are Cypriot and 'loves' Cyprus ....

The Turkish army invaded Cyprus because the Cypriots , all Cypriots , were brainwashed by Greece and Turkey and encouraged to deny their true identity that of a Cypriot. Even bloody Halloumi is a Cypriot product as well as the famous Cypriot potato not forgetting our Cypriot Mouflon and our sturdy donkey.
You can be a Cypriot Greek , Cypriot Turk , Maronite or Armenian but in essence those deriving from Cyprus born and bred in Cyprus for hundreds of years are predominantly Cypriots.
I have no problem with being a Greek Cypriot the problem I have is to be a Greek and in denial of my ancestry which was exceptionally Cypriot.
Since Cyprus is recognized the world over as an independent nation what is your problem in accepting what the rest of the world already does .
The common denominator for all Cypriots should by default be Cyprus and its IDENTITY .

Even in death , T/Cs and G/Cs want to be buried back in their homeland
their island of Cyprus .

A test

Postby Tim Drayton » Thu May 28, 2009 9:59 am

Let us put it to the test then.
I will post a series of pictures here and let us see who can identify whether the people in these pictues are Greek Cypriots or Turkish Cypriots.

Picture 1 - Father and son have returned from a successful day's hunting.

Tim ... please don't bother, because I can post pictures of Frenchmen drinking wine and eating cheese and post the same for an Englishman and you would not necessarily tell them apart ..... nothing more than superficial crassness confirming my initial accusation.
