A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

umit07 ... I don't know the origins of this maxim. We need someone like AlexISS who is well versed on matters political and historical.

But the translation you have opted for ... branded by reactionary fools (like Miltiades) is definitely wrong.

A closer translation, I would say, bearing in mind linguistics nuances, would be "Only in death can a Turk be good" ... which as axioms go, is a pretty standard aphorism to make an example of those who habitually err.

I've just typed the text to the sig. into google images and this was one of the pic's that came up.

I think it's a pretty good enough translation for bafidi.

Says the prat !!! Sorry Turks but surely you can not be offended just because this Plonker considers only a dead Turk is good !! You Turks are very touchy , I mean someone says your lives are worthless and only death makes them valuable and you get offended !!!!
Oh my God we do have some real plonkers amongst us led by none other that the incomparable lady Viperous herself a committed bullshit spreader, supporting cast each and every destructive to Cyprus individual , Plonkers all of them but none the biggest as the muttonhead , or is it kangaroo head Paphitis the impostor Cypriot !!
ps. Lets shoot down a few civilian aircraft on approach to the northern part of Cyprus shall we .
You despicable ,insignificant reprehensible little git !!

I second that, but surely the real problem is not just on this forum but that teachers are openly propagating these thoughts through the school system, according to one of these posters. It is openly used in the Army too which is an arm of the RoC. This must be tackled properly otherwise there is no hope for reconciliation; sooner or later it will fall apart again as in 63.
It is now easier then ever to deal with it. It is racist and racism is against the law in the EU. It is upto RoC to take them to task. Unless of course the RoC is riddled with people who are of that mind. We have no way of knowing. Actions speak louder than words.

The other thing stupid slogans like that do is allow people like Yfred who has endorsed the occupation of Cyprus and the sale of GC property in the north to take on a holier than thou attitude with the Cyprob. He is now preaching to the rest of us about the importance of peace  when he's spent half his time on this forum selling partition.

Here you go again brains showing your indisputable ability to endorse stupid acts. THE CORRECT TRANSLATION FOOL FOR THIS .
Tούρκος καλός μόνο νεκρός. "
IS THIS : A GOOD TURK IS ONLY A DEAD TURK "
HERE IS ANOTHER " ONLY A DEAD TURK IS A GOOD TURK"
Get it through your head hiding behind untidy unwashed hair !!

Now brains , listen to this , my bilingual 5and half year old granddaughter can do a better job in translating that you !!!
We all know that you endorse such racist comments and support all those who defend them , Alexisx one of your heroes is another master at hate , but you surpass them all under the guise of a seemingly educated persona , when in fact you are nothing more than a bitter and hateful old woman .

The fact that the slogan is racially offensive to Turks is enough to object to it, translation or context has little to do with it unless it is qualified each time it is posted. Even then it's still offensive in my opinion.

The problem with you and Bafidi is that nationalistic hate has blinded you both. The facts are that the axiom is widely used by ultra nationalistic greeks on their neo-nazi style websites.

Stop trying to play the devils advocate

That is only one (extreme) method for achieving goodness. The alternative is to simply stop behaving badly, in life ....

I am anti-capital punishment, and I don't advocate punishments of any description lightly. But I personally don't mind any forms of verbal eye-openers ... based on truth!

But, admittedly these are easy vehicles for inarticulate fools ....
