It’s a common mistake for people to assume that Petrol is “Petrolao” due to the obvious similarity.

Yes I knew this, that was the point, the play in the similarity between petrolao in gr/cy (diesel) and petrol in GB.

I do know a some basic greek and cy. I learnt it from a book!

How about one of these threads… a Pseudo to Real translator:

Pseudo Talk: ”The Honorable President Talat met up with the British community leader Elizabeth II…”

Real Translation: “The Turkish Cypriot leader Talat marveled at Buckingham Palace from the main gates while on holidays in London.”

At the ForumBBQ earlier this year

RB .."any firelighters koumpare?"
DT .."no, use some petrolao je n'apsousin"
RB .."petrol? OK then file"
GR .."Put on some more petrolao reh poushtoenglesso yia na apsousin kala! "
RB .. "more petrol?"
Soon after.....
NicosiaFireMan .."eisastin je ee tries sas belli ( all three of you are plonkers)

I still dont 'get it' :?: :?:

petrolao = diesel , often used to start bbqs, reasonably safe to use (imho)

petrol (sounds similar) = petrol = can be explosive mistake

(apsousin = to light)

Bill I was playing up to sterotype as per page 2 of the thread

I agree. The most boring posters on the CF are Piratis and Sotos.

It's your 'understanding' which needs sharpening!

Typical Forumer Vs Denizaksulu

Forumer: Turkey invaded Cyprus.
Deniz: I'm having olives for lunch. :D
Forumer: Nearly 200,000 GCs were ethnically cleansed.
Deniz: I might prune my bushes. :?
Forumer: Human Rights were violated by Turkey.
Deniz: Miltiades, thanks for the coffee. 8)

No, I think it has been declared "ignore the poushto Englezous" day. I was in Omodos this afternoon with 11 GCs when the DIKO heavies (like Kenevezos!) descended on the place handing out half a dozen different leaflets for the candidates in the EU elections. Everyone in my party received one from each of the candidates, but I was ignored! Then along came Garoyian to shake everybody's hand, and again I was ignored!

They obviously don't know that I have a vote too, but if the read this they might understand where it is not going!!!!!
