Do you think that this is EVER likely to be the case?

They can cease and not consider any more discussions on Turkeys membership in the EU until such time her 40,000 troops stationed in Cyprus move out and secondly they need to impose economic embargoes on Turkey till she stops her occupation of Cyprus.

Secondly the UN if serious about solving the Cyprus problem needs to provide additional UN forces in Cyprus to prevent any possible conflict by Greek speaking Cypriots against Turkish speaking Cypriots should Turkey removes its military from Cypriot land and until such time Talat and Christofias complete negotiations and a date for unification is fixed

Anything less than this is just talk

Hi Humanist,

I believe that if the EU actually ceased the discussions with Turkey on full EU membership, then this would not be very good for us.

It is much better for the EU, to be doing exactly what it is doing now. That is to negotiate and hopefully fully close some EU Acquis chapters and as Turkey makes progress in certain areas, then highlight the deficient areas and eventually start talking tough when there are only a few chapters outstanding.

Even a "special association" as mooted by Germany and France is not in our interest.

Definately.

:!: :!: :!:

Then why don't they withdraw from the negotiations?

Why would Turkey be wasting our time?

Every time I monitor the Turkish media, you get the impression that the country is gripped by EU euphoria.

Far from it....have you ever been to Turkey or talked with well educated Turks...they understand that they will never get in whatever they do.

Yes mate. I have been to Turkey and spoken to some very educated Turks.

They all seem to think that Turkey's future lies with the EU!!
