Isnt it time Cypriot drivers WOKE UP !!

Postby miltiades » Wed May 20, 2009 8:42 pm

I'm disgusted at the continued disregard of the dangers involved in careless stupid bloody driving that most Cypriots tend to do daily. No seat belts , mobiles continually even texting while the f..ng idiots are risking their lives and the lives of innocent and careful drivers. Whenever a non-Cypriot criticizes the Cypriot driver a barrage of abuse follows . Well this is one Cypriot telling the Cypriot driver that is about time that they realize that what takes them from A to B is not a bloody donkey but a deadly weapon . I'm shocked that the government does very little to stop these irresponsible people putting their lives and those of others at risk. Why on earth do most drivers go though the red lights , why do they follow so close behind another car , why do they speed like f..ing maniacs .
It is a culture that has been passed down from father to son mother to daughter and it continues . No road sense what so ever , no appreciation and consideration of other road users . In all I find the Cypriot driver as bad as the bloody Arabs . Accidents dont just happen in Cyprus , accidents are premeditated due to stupidity.
Just had to get it of my chest following an almost fatal accident on Monday in Limassol involving a very close member of my family .

Have been driving since 1971 when I passed my test , that's 38 years without an accident or causing an accident. I learned from early on to respect other road users and drive with due care and attention. Have passed this down to my son and daughter who thankfully both are responsible drivers. My son drives some of the fastest cars around , mostly Italian and mostly rather expensive . I'm rather more traditional with my car choice at my age .
I never drink and drive so my evening driving is non existent.

The Cypriots drive as well as they have been taught to do!! Until the driving test and the police become tougher they will continue to do so :?
I have never seen as many accidents as I have here!! I drive my car like I do my motorbike, as if everyone is out to kill me......It's the only way

And yet ... surprisingly enough ... for the fact that Cypriot roads are amongst the most dangerous, for natural geographic reasons, there are no more deaths on Cypriot roads than some of the more "sophisticated" countries in Europe....

All that seems to happen is that in Cyprus we have more time on our hands to watch and think and criticise ...

Really my dear Milti, I am so surprised, leaving aside the near accident in Lim, that you are attacking this important part of Cy culture. What seems to us in the West as poor driving is in reality a very real reflection of the whole Cy culture. An attack on Cy driving is an attack on the whole of Cy culture (both comms).

We should be celebrating the poor driving standards for there is still a small corner of Europe where the Irreverent Anarchic Cypriot can stick two fingers to the rule book, can tell the traffic wardens to stuff it, ignore the red lights and state-imposed speed limits.

Put your foot down on the gas and celebrate it please Milti, cos when it's gone, you'll miss it for another someyhing that sets cys apart from ordinary Europeans will have gone.

Yes more traffic wardens and speed cameras ... I am sure that's what (hypocritical) Miltiades is asking for ....
