Soldier libidos curtailed by lack of army-issue condoms
By Elias Hazou
THE NATIONAL Guard is said to be facing a severe shortage of condoms caused by delays in procurement procedures—but help is on the way.
According to Phileleftheros, the problem arose when a contract between the Ministry of Health and the supplier of condoms expired six months ago. Due to a combination of understaffing and workload, the department in charge of procurements kept postponing the launch of a new tender.
As a result, condoms in the army are now in dangerously short supply. Whether this has caused red-blooded conscript teens to become more edgy than usual could not be independently confirmed.
For the time being, National Guardsmen have been able to get by with what few supplies are available. It is not known whether a rations system is in place.
Phileleftheros reported that enterprising conscripts have been resorting to viral infection report centers, from where escort-service ladies procure their condoms for free.
The paper said also that the shortage problem was worsened recently after a batch of faulty condoms had to be taken down from shelves.
Meanwhile the scarcity of prophylactics is said to have provoked reaction among National Guardsmen demanding that the problem be solved.
According to the paper, as a quick fix, the Ministry of Health has put in an order for a small quantity of condoms by bypassing normal procedures. Meanwhile a new shipment is expected in three weeks’ time.
