Greeks of Cyprus do not need the approval of mainland Greece in order they state their land as Greek. They are Greeks themselves and regardeless of mainland Greece.
re kotsiropoule, if you gonna stupid things, the least you can do is say them proprrly in a stupid around of a way...you are not a greek...coz greeks come from greece...you are a hellenic...not that I subscribe to any of the myths mind you...
Hellas became Greece out of ottomans calling all of us Grecos.therefore your point not valid/. the meaning actually is not the same , you are right, but 95 per cent of foreigners know us as Greeks (despite we are citizens of Greece or Cyprus)/ I can not be blamed for this.
I think the ottomans/turks differentiated...rum, romios, and something different for us...yunan?...can't remember...but hey feel free piggy backing on others history...
In the Turkish Language, the word YUNAN, refers to those from Greece. Perhaps derived from the word 'Ionian'. All other Greek speakers where 'RUM' or 'Romios'.
Thanks Deniz, I got it ass about...
The real question is when did we become, yunans?...
I prefer rum... ....and not necessarily for the same reason...
Yunan of course is the most correct name Greeks had ever from Turks.Rum or Romios related to early Byzantium years when the Empire was Roman.Despite Yunanistan is sounds like Afhanistan its meaning its the most accurate.
but when did a rum become a yunan?...this is the crust of the matter...
Must have been after 1821.
Cretans were also RUM.
they too want independence...funny huh?...
