Cyprus, Goodbye we won't be back

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

In fact every year we have a lot of drunken assholes going up and down our streets vandalizing but last years they use to finish the night in our police stations,
On the other hand I don't understand those ones that say that the prices in Cyrpus are expensive. I had been in Cyprus four times in the last 9 years and I allways found the prices of bars, restaurants and so on cheaper than the ones here in Spain, maybe it is because I have friends in Cyprus and use to go to "not touristic places" but even the hotel fares are far cheaper than in Spain so I really cannot understand your complaints.
If I was a british with a limited budget I'll rather go to Cyprus that to Spain, here everything is expensiver even for us the Spaniards,

No NO NO!! SPain is cheaper....

It doesn't all just revolve around you blinkered Brits and your essential annual holiday getaways from the land of damp weather, rotting society and defunct politics.

It's not the empty hotels which bother the GCs in Famagusta ... it's the fact children, elders, whole families cannot go back to their rightful homes....

Totally off the boil here Oracle. Your missing the point 100%

Fuck off pointless twit ...

You really are a classy lady Oracle

As I told you before...Get lost!

"Cyprus, Goodbye we won't be back"

That's what I was told yesterday by some friends who have been coming here for the last 7 years.

And tell your friends that they are not welcome in Cyprus either.... :D Let's just hope they keep their promise.

Tourism occupies a dominant position in the economy of Cyprus.[1]
· In 2006 it was expected to contribute 10.7% of GDP.
· in real terms it generated CYP£2,598.2 mn (US$5,445.0 mn) (annual-2006).
· total employment was estimated at 113,000 jobs (29.7% of total employment = 1 in every 3.4 jobs).

GDP US$21.382 Billion (As of 2007)

Source Wikepedia

I have highlighted the earnings for GDP and tourist income for different years (2006 and 2007) but even on these figure tourism is 25% of GDP and this figure will be higher if shown as a percentage of overseas earnings

If Cyprus wants to attract better tourists it needs better resorts first.

It’s very strange that Milti and Jerry decided to quote the Wiki with its 2006 figures and erroneous information that tourism has the number 1 income earning spot in Cyprus, when I posted the most reliable and up to date source yesterday, namely the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT) where we found…

Year..........Arrivals..........Revenue......Spend p/person
-------------------------------------------------------------------
2006........2,400,924.......1,755.3..........€731
2007........2,416,081…....1,858.1…......€769
2008........2,403,750…....1,792.8..........€745

http://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/cystat/statis ... t&sub=2&e=

If Tourism amounts to only 10-12% of the country's GDP, then how can it possibly be the #1 income earner?

The idiot also concluded that because Tourism generated US$5,445.0 mn out of US$21.382 Billion GDP then tourism acoounted for 25% of GDP...

And at the same time the wiki specifically stated that Tourism accounted for 10.7% of GDP and to day it only accounts for 7%.

No wonder he sells pots and pans.

I hope he has a good accountant, because he has no idea about economics...

Well based on Wiki figures perhaps you can do the calulation for us:-

Tourism generated US$5,445.0 mn
GDP US$21.382 Billion

Answer please?

Clue, decimal points and commas

And then show us how Wiki calculated 10.7%

That is not how you work out GDP.

The formula for working out GDP is as follows:

GDP = consumption + gross investment + government spending + (exports − imports)

Read the question again very slowly and try to understand it before you reply. Do not offer another formula for calculating GDP because that was not what I asked. Based on the figures quoted from Wiki above please show how the "idiot" miscalculated the figure of 25%. Also make sure that when you respond to a post with an insult that you refer to the right "idiot"

So you are going to be teaching me maths now...

I know how the 25% was calculated. I also know that the Tourism Revenue above did not take into account the costs of generating this revenue.

The fool divided the GDP with Tourism generated revenue without deducting the costs.....Image

How WRONG is that....Image

Side track, evade and smother with emoticons, is that the best you can do?

The idiot also concluded that because Tourism generated US$5,445.0 mn out of US$21.382 Billion GDP then tourism acounted for 25% of GDP...
No mention of the costs of generating the revenue here because you could not get your head round the fact that the figures were expressed differently. Bit of an after-thought was it?

No wonder he sells pots and pans. Wrong "idiot".
You obviously have difficulty in following discussion on the forum.

Perhaps you can direct me to a site that shows how the costs incurred in tourism are calculated.

Listen very carefully.

Wikipedia only stated the total revenue from Tourism. Obviously, this revenue also has an inbuilt cost. The Wiki site already tells you that Tourism accounts for 10.7%, so from that we now that just over half of all Tourism Revenues merely covered costs, such as the purchase of goods and services, electricity, insurance, etc etc.

Get it?

So perhaps you can oblige and direct me to a site that shows how the costs incurred in tourism are calculated because "obviously" is not good enough for me.

Nothing to say about the wrong "odiot" then?

Its not just Cyprus this happens is it??

Just as long as myself and young cobbett don't get ripped off on our march into a free Kyrenia then all is well

And you know what, I'm sure that Cyprus will survive as it has done for all those thousands of years

The thing is also it was probably a brit owned bar doing the ripping off
